Lawyers and doctors have advanced degrees. Men with graduate degrees, like me, earn an average of over $1.5 million more than men with just HS degrees. That is roughly $600k more than a regular degree. This is regardless of university.

But I do agree a degree from a better university helps you earn more than a degree from a lower ranked college/university.
I don't know what it's like in US but here plumber's, electricians etc are making more money than a lot of graduates... people will look at A-level grades (is that your equivalent of college?) and if they are crap then then a general degree means nothing because it will be easy and employerswont care, again I don't know the ins and outs of the system in US

it's the same here in the US... plumbers and electricians make good money. some makes more than college degree graduates. a degree will only help you get in the door, you still need the experience to get a high paying salary.

Short term, sure they are. Long term they aren’t. Not to say plumbing or electricians don’t make great money.

But they go to school, often for years, for both to get certified/licensed. They don’t just get those jobs right out of HS so what you’re saying is a bit misleading.

It takes 3-4 years to get an electricians license in England. That is the same time to earn a college degree.

Do plumbers have an age requirement like in NJ? You have to be 21 to apply to take the test here?

I think too many right wing liars have some of you convinced that these degrees are trash because people choose art history or something like that. If someone wants to be museum curator, that is their choice. I wouldn’t but hey.

The ones that make more are either short term ( fresh out of college) or comparing a long time plumber to someone that hasn’t worked for a long time.

But yes, well trained plumbers and electricians make great money. They just don’t only have a HS degree. They have to study and pass tests and earn a license/ certification.

Yeah and the electricians will be way better off than someone with a degree from a Mickey mouse university I'm not reading right wing propaganda I'm telling your straight these general degrees are considered completely worthless unless its at a respectable university, the exceptions being courses such as nursing. My friend got a bachelors degree from a ****e University (and there are actually a lot of unis worse than his) and he works as a delivery driver, he's been doing it for years it's not a stop gap it's all he can get

My point is it’s misleading to suggest they don’t have to attend school and earn license after HS.

That isn’t because of the degree. Maybe he didn’t use college like he should have.

Getting dunk and partying, not doing intern/externahips. Maybe he also isn’t trying hard to get a job in his field.

Even with a Masters it took me 6 months thus after graduation to get a job in my field.

Literally every day I had 2 jobs- managing a liquor store and scouring job sites to find work.

I know it’s much more difficult today.

He's been doing it for 5 years or so he's not an isolated case these people aren't taking stopgap jobs they are just simply no more employable than if they hadn't gone to university. University is meant to be (or should be) for people who are somewhat academic, you don't need to be Einstein but some of these clowns going to university struggled at high school level, them 'studying'for 3 years with other morons at a university on an easy course where you are competing againt other ******s doesn't change anything, if you can't get at least a B grade in a subject you shouldn't study it at University. Anyway there is nothing to debate in the UK they aren't employable unless they want a job in Starbucks

Yes todays job markets are difficult post covid.

That is a distorted, warped view of life on a campus. Maybe that is how it is now. It doesn’t seem like it.

They are employable despite the market being rough.

Well you said he works at Starbucks. That is a fast paced customer service job. Clearly someone with those skills is employable.

Also he is surely contributing to his own situation.
