As much as I love the Gracies, I also love Khabib. They're getting ragdolled by the Russians.

Yeh, in MMA I'd say khabib mauls Rickson. In a pure grappling match I'd say Rickson eventually subs Khabib, prime for prime.

Nurmagomedov grappling style seems more effective for MMA.

As great as BJJ is, they can get manhandled by wrestlers. No one is manhandling someone like Khabib lol.

Oliveria has really high level jiu jitsu and the most submissions in UFC history, yet Makhachev didn't really struggle at all when they were on the ground.

royce gracie came up and WON (multiple times) in mma/ufc when it was an openweight and single elimination tournament.

id like to see if khabib could have won ufc 1,2,4 under those same conditions as royce did.

has khabib ever won a open weight single elimination same night mma tournament? royce has. royce has fought under the same conditions as khabib but not khabib.

and bringing up the matt hughes fight? dafuq is wrong with you? he was in his 40s and fought 2 more times after that. he was way past prime when the hughes fight happened.

Solid post there Tua that's some good info , as I did not know that about sambo. Seems like all those arts or styles evolved off of Judo mainly.

The Gracies do a style of Judo. During the second world war Japan stopped martial arts and fell behind compared to other countries that did Judo... meanwhile other countries evolved their own style of Judo if they were savy. The Gracies specialized in the ground aspects of Judo. Sambo technically is an umbrella term for Russian martial Art... literally the process as a whole. This includes sports fighting, military arts, etc. The Military arts are very complex and deal with movement dynamics that increase leverage and efficiency. The branch of Sambo that deals with Judo specializes in leg locks of all things. The Russian Sambo players had incredible leg locking techniques.

I don't know specifics about the wrestling Khabib does... But the Gracies were part of a culture that had many families doing systems. The older Gracie Guys were less polished and more about toughness than technical mastery... Helio for example. Even Rorian was a tough, wiry guy, more than a technician per se.
