Austin was a pristine small town then and the air breathable. Put me then in Austin today, and I'd be choking and slowing to have to pick my spots around the spilled gravel, big rocks, and transmission spills. I did pass up a couple spandexes on a steep neighborhood grade not so long ago before I parked that bike permanently. I was embarrassed for them.
lol. Yea man. I can't do the spandex.

I ran over a middle aged woman last summer. Rang my bell, her group all moved to the left and as she began moving left, she suddenly moved quickly to the right...right in front of me. Luckily we weren't hurt, though she did seem to take the brunt of it. I was able to avoid hitting my head and just did a couple of rolls. No big deal. Learned my lesson that I have to slow way down when passing someone...and also learned that in America...or at least in my neighborhood, people seem very confused about bike bells. lol. In Korea you ring a bike bell, and people are out of the way pronto. Here, half the time they seem to be oblivious. Lots of walkers with headphones in as well.

      - - Going on hike and bike trails different than the street. The sedentary have genetically different reactions than active athletics. Now eScooters and eBikes have taken over our trails, so where are the sedentary to go now for exercise?

BTW, didn't make it clear, but my accidents were on my motorcycle. Can't get up to 80 mph on a bike without being towed or tumbling down Mt Everest.

Very true. I ride at a park around a beautiful pond. More and more the motorized bikes and scooters are coming through during my laps and it's frustrating a fuvck. Still not as bad as the women on one side of the road with their leashed dog on the other side. :-|

I've always wanted to own a motorcycle but haven't been able to convince myself that it's worth the risk.

That stage was arguably the best and most exiting stage in 30 years. The way Roglic and Vingegaard attacked Pogacar on Galibier was epic. 9 attacks and Pogacar defended them all! Then finally running out of sugar on that final brutal climb where Lemond bitd took away Hinault's final yellow jersey. It was spectacular!

                    - - It's not really though I've been contemplating. The sheer ease of getting around in nice weather, low traffic conditions is intoxicating. Here we have a record setting year of fatalities of car/motorcyle/pedestrian on top of the previous year of City Council Zero Fatalities Directive that led to new records in those categories.

It's Twilight Zone City here these days.
