they look and aim as they let it go, then shift to defense. by then however the punch is already on its way and once a punch is on its way you dont re aim it anyways, thats called pushing your punches. one you let it go its gone, maintaining eye contact helps make contact properly once it lands, but a true punches can make proper contact regardless.

to answer OP its very individual. for example JT struggles to see straight right hands while khan struggles with left hooks.
I think my only mistake was that I tried describing the punch by giving it a name.

I should have been clear in that fact.

It's as if in basketball the no look pass didn't have a name yet I describe it.

Then someone comes along and says, that not real," you simple look in the opposite direction even though you know where the ball will be passed and fake the act of throwing in one direction while actually"...wait for it..lol throw in opposite direction lol

Yeah, I'm the same with the left hook. I've never actually seen it when It was thrown but I block it all the same. But being southpaw helps because it messes with their distance perception lol

From what I can tell it's just the different angles and distance involved. Being a southpaw the worst punch by far is the straight right while for them it's the straight left. Jabs are no issue because it's just glove's against glove and I'm experimenting with catching or parrying the jabs then throwing straight lefts. On the whole starting out as a southpaw is hell because he catch a lot of straight rights early on but you start to adapt and realise it's way harder for them to hit you than it is for you to hit them.
