Forgive me for not caring about your individual take on both Lara/Trout. Nearly all observers were split on who won those fights. Had he won against Trout and Lara decisively, thered be no debate as to whether he belongs on a p4p list .. But he could easily have 3 losses
He won all 3 fights. He's on the list.

Canelo did not prove to be any better than Trout or Lara in those fights, as reflected by the split scorecards across the industry. Its a little unfair to give credit to Canelo, but not to Lara/Trout simply based on Canelo's apparent 'luck' with ringside judges..
That being said, i'll be fascinated to see what the Cotto fight scores look likeLast edited by techliam; 11-23-2015, 12:43 AM.

Canelo better be on P4P lists as of now.
They have ****ing Gonzalez and GGG at the top of the lists.

Canelo still doesn't convince me. He has good names on his resume, and even though I do feel he beat Trout and Lara, he barely beat them. Didn't look sensational against them nor vs Cotto. I want him to be the real deal for the sake of the sport but I'm still not convinced.
I hope this is the case here...
Canelo
Canelo keeps adding to a resume that has become deep and stylistically sophisticated over the last three years or so. Fighting guys like Mayweather, Lara, Trout, and a defense-minded Cotto will not make you LOOK impressive, but it WILL make you a better fighter. If Canelo were to fight nothing but opponents with styles hand-picked to make him look good, he'd look like a beast right now and the panties of the fans who live out their frustrated macho fantasies through the sport would be soaking wet. But Team Canelo seem to be interested in long-term development over the quick payout-- and a semi-educated hunch says that Alvarez, himself, is behind that strategy because, even as a freckle-faced teenager, he was talking legacy.
So, this talk in some circles of not being impressed or thinking that Canelo's just an average talent hyped to the max has to be calibrated by the fact that he's been fighting, for the most part, very well-rounded fighters who nobody looks good against. I doubt anyone, anywhere would look good against the safety-minded Cotto we saw on Saturday night.
The kid has his technical flaws, still, but you won't find too many other fighters as well put together-- in all aspects of the sport-- as Canelo.

He got the decision over a Trout - he should have. He did the better work offensively and defensively, scored a big knockdown and won the fight. He shouldn't get credit because he won a pretty close fight? I don't agree.
He got the decision over Lara - could have gone either way. Yeah, this one is regarded as a toss-up and, as someone who picked Lara to win, I thought he gave it away in the 2nd half. He stopped working and Canelo started working big to the body.
He got the decision over Cotto - it was convincing. He was in complete control throughout, landed all the meaningful shots, the commentary teams (US and UK) and all ringside scorers had him winning, over 75% of people on here had him winning (only really the Cotto fans voted no) and I imagine the vast majority of scores you're waiting for will have him winning.
I get why dubious decisions would make people hesitant to give credit, but I don't think any of them were dubious. Just one was a toss-up.
