In your opinion, is Golden Boy Promotions the best promotional firm out there?

Please vote in the poll and discuss.

When you do, please consider some factors into your vote:

    - Roster/Talent (does GBP have the deepest roster out there)
    - Fights made (Does GBP put on the best match ups?)
    - Quality of cards (as a whole, does GBP put on solid cards)
    - Money (Are they getting **** for their buck? Does GBP overpay its fighters and not get good results?)

Interested to see what the response to this is on here since Schaefer and De La Hoya have boasted that losing HBO doesn't matter since they have "the best talent" and put on the "best fights" etc

edit: I thought about putting an option for "no, Top Rank is" but I decided I wanted to get a better feel for it as a yes or no. Feel free to discuss your view on which firm is in the comments.

    Thanks.

If you're a young prospect you're going to want to sign for GBP as they have the best opponents.

I feel HBO is the best channel to watch as a viewer.

Undecided. Lets see what they can do with Showtime, and then we'll see.

So far they haven't delivered the fight I really want. Matthysse vs Garcia.

They'll make it up with the "tourney", even though it's heavily favored for Khan.

            No.

My problem with Golden Boy is that they are more interested in guys who look like they could be mainstream stars than in guys who can actually fight. They usually do not match their guys in tough unless there is a lot of public pressure for them to do it. It took nearly a year for Khan to get in with Maidana when he was Khan's mandatory, for example, and more recently they dragged their feet trying to find an opponent for Canelo Alvarez that wasn't Austin Trout.

Golden Boy is always promoting one fighter in every fight, and it has backfired on them. They took Josecito Lopez lightly by putting him in with Victor Ortiz, they had already practically signed Ortiz-Alvarez in September on the assumption that Ortiz would breeze through. They matched Danny Garcia with Erik Morales thinking Morales would probably beat him, then they threw Danny Garcia at Amir Khan thinking Amir Khan would beat him. Supposedly Garcia and his family had to take a cab to the arena while Khan took a limo. After the upset they began promoting Danny Garcia in earnest... and matched him up in a joke of a rematch with Morales as well as an easy fight with Judah.

Lucas Matthysse was basically an opponent-type fighter of theirs. They did not support him when he "lost" to Judah or Alexander. It is only very recently that GBP has realized Matthysse is actually a very popular and well-liked fighter among the fans, a guy exciting enough to lead a main event. Erislandy Lara is another fighter of theirs that has fought plenty of competitive fights in his division but still has no support from his promoter. James Kirkland has been sidelined, no word on what he is up to. Same with Perro Angulo. Those guys have not been properly promoted.

Compare this to Top Rank who develops their prospects through trials by fire. Brandon Rios could have been developed slowly but instead they threw him in with guys like Anthony Peterson, Miguel Acosta, Urbano Antillon and Mike Alvarado among other tough fighters. Nonito Donaire fought four top-10 ranked guys in the span of one year and they've now got him signed to fight Rigondeaux who is regarded as perhaps the best amateur boxer of all time. Manny Pacquaio was repeatedly placed against much bigger opponents who were expected to beat him up; even if you think little of Cotto, Clottey, Margarito and Mosley now, they were all much bigger and stronger guys who could damage Pacquiao badly with their punches (when they chose to throw them).

Just my thoughts anyway. There are plenty of Golden Boy fighters I enjoy watching, but in my experience Golden Boy picks stars and tries to protect them while Top Rank lets their stars emerge.

I don't think they are any better at promoting fights or putting together fights or any more honest than any other promoters. They got my yes vote because they have the most good fighters overall. They have the most good fights in the 140, 147, and 154 classes by far and those are very deep weights classes with lots of good fighters.

                Very interesting.

Depends on what you mean by the best. They do have the best roster tho.

What promotional company DOES NOT do this? LOL GB like TR wants to make the best financial fights. This idea that they don't makes no sense to me, they want to build up a fighter and then cash him out in a big payday, that's the way ALL promotional companies work.

Golden Boy is always promoting one fighter in every fight, and it has backfired on them. So wait a minute, on one hand you say they cherry pick and now you are saying they matched them up wrong with tough fighters...which is it? Every promotional company looks ahead, if you don't you're a bad business person. You want to see into the future, set the big fights up. Are upsets going to happen? Of course it's boxing.

None of those fighters you mentioned were "sidelined" by GB, they were viable on the big stage except for Lara. Lara is not an exciting fighter, Mathesse lost but also was a fighter that wasn't getting fights because of his punching power and Kirkland backed out of two fights because of injury. Let's remember Kirkland was set to fight Canelo and fought Angulo. So I don't know where you are getting the idea they don't make tough fights.

Compare this to Top Rank who develops their prospects through trials by fire. Brandon Rios wasn't a star until he made himself a star, they didn't know what they had in him until he beat Acosta and Peterson. Donaire didn't have all big fights, he fought Narvaez which was a joke of a fight and then they put him in against a shot, old Arce. Pac fought who was there at the weight, he had no choice to fight those guys because that's where the division was.

Just my thoughts anyway. There are plenty of Golden Boy fighters I enjoy watching, but in my experience Golden Boy picks stars and tries to protect them while Top Rank lets their stars emerge.
They don't do anything different than TR, they are all the same with the same bottom line, MAKE MONEY.

It was Arum that held back the biggest fight of the decade in Pac vs Floyd and it's funny the way you seem to forgive and forget that.

Best promoters are the ones willing to work with anybody, I don't care how big they are.
