Alvarez prime was from ggg 2 to charlo

peak was the Caleb plant fight that was best Alvarez we’d ever see

Alls I know, the ending of the fight, the way them two nearly kissed each other made it look like they knew what they just did. They robbed the folks that paid to see that snoozefest and were happy to improve their bank accounts with minimal damage to either. This is exactly the kind of big fights that immediately loses the casuals from the sport completely. There is no way a casual is going to tune into the next hyped fight after they just fell asleep on this one when they got other things to do since boxing is not high on their must see TV list.

Shakur & Haney out land their opponents

          Scull did not.

          "Hit & not get hit"

          That's the point of boxing.

You're right, still past prime ggg, two lower divisions and inactive charlo and a good fighter in Caleb, is what the face of boxing has to show for 20 years in the business and 67 fights?

I already knew boxing is dying. But they always find ways to unalive the sport.
PPV sales and subs are horrible

There's absolutely no way they deserve their paycheck with the declining sales
              The money is running dry

They only made money this time because they ran towards a dictator and kissed his hands.
              They dont actively GENERATE revenue.
It's subsidized by the whims of a dictator who could drop the sport at any moment.

Rigondeaux is primarily responsible for the current image of Cuban boxing; and, to a lesser extent, Lara. Gamboa, who launched his professional career at the same time, was as exciting as they come, yet no one calls his brand of fighting “Cuban style.” Casamayor, who was the most prominent Cuban fighter prior to the arrival of those three, couldn’t be called boring either. There’s no doubt that the many years of amateur success the nation had affected the style of some of her professionals, but thankfully that trend seems to be reversing. Scull can’t be considered emblematic — thankfully. Guys like Morrell, Cruz and Ramirez are more representative of the “new” Cuban school. They come to fight, and bring some skills with them.

He was so much fun to watch — like a mini-Mike Tyson/RJJ hybrid. A cautionary tale, though. Careful who you hang out with.

Their style is more like DMJ, Iglesias, Tellez, Leon, Herrera, Casamayor, Hurtado, and bunch of them that I don't recall right now, Stevenson was the a very good example of the style, Correa, Rolando Garbey. That label was put on one boxer by a bitter promoter because he derailed the wagon, for the next "Pacquio".
Excellent post! Counter punching is the most evolved technical aspect of the art. One has to be in the right position (footwork), have explicit timing, and the confidence to be in range for an initial attack. If one studies combat, and the writings of the great Musashi in japan, you seldom hear of counters. In actual life and death one seeks to overwhelm an opponent at the right time and push the advantage.

But in an art where one can evolve past necessity, to counter the opponent is an indication of experience and knowledge of the craft. Cuban fighters always seemed tehcnically accomplished. Even guys who did not counter could counter punch and the great fighters like Stephenson were murderous counter punchers. It all goes back to your first sentence: You want to make the guy who misses pay for the miss. You accomplish so much doing this. You create a situation where you do not have to back your opponent up constantly, you make him think twice about throwing his shots, etc.

Most people do not even know what a legit counter punch is. When done correctly the opponent is just at the point of completing his shot and then Bam! It is not, I throw and pull back a shot you throw a shot at me. You catch the guy at the end of is shot, which really makes im think twice about throwing it again.
