As far as recent FOTYs go, Holyfield-Tyson 1 in 96' was extremely overrated. Barrera-McKinney was far more deserving. So were Golota-Bowe 2 and Gatti-Rodriguez. Kelley-Gainer 1 and Liles-Littles 2 were outstanding fights as well.

Some of the old choices were strange.

    Ali-Jones?

    Young-Foreman over Saad-M. Johnson 1?

Foreman-Frazier? Sure, if you like your fights to resemble a father beating his child.

Yeah i mean both Bowe vs Golota fights were superb. Barrera vs McKinney was awesome. There was just too much holding in the Tyson v Holy fight to be considered FOTY. Gatti v Rodriguez.....what a war. I love that fight.

    I loved Mercer vs Cooper,Cooper v Tillman,Dokes vs Holy,Holy v Cooper etc.

What list are you going by?

The Ring had Hagler-Hearns for 1985 and Cruz-McGuigan in 1986.
It was not FOTY ? i must be getting the wrong end of the stick then. I got an avi version of that fight and im sure the guy has put Spinks v Holmes FOTY. He most of got confused or something.

          Mancini vs Bramble 2
          Mancini vs Kim
          Olivares v Arguello
          Chacon v Edwards 1 /2
          Chacon v Danny Lopez....great fight.

That was an excellent fight. I actually liked Gatti-Robinson 1 a little more though. I thought the 9th round of Gatti-Ward 1 was better than any round in Gattt-Robinson 1, but I thought the sustained action level was more consistent in the Robinson fight.

If you watch the fight objectively, you'll see that after the first half of the first round Hagler pretty much kicked Tommy's ass. Great match, but way overrated

That being said, Hagler-Hearns doesn't rank especially high on my list of best fights.
I was one of them and I never expected it to be like that.

I think the shock of it in hindsight really worked on me. ( being a kid probably added to it)

And keep in mind, this fight was on a Monday night. You'd never see that nowadays.
There are of course a million better longer fights but that was just a street fight by two very good boxers.

                      Oh you must mean either Corrales-Castillo 1, Ali-Frazier 3, or Saad-M. Johnson 1.
