Holmes was unfairly treated at times and was severely underrated...but this is a man who dropped kick Trevor from the ring and was not above giving what he got...

One should remember that Holmes did manage to **** King and keep his money though....And that shows that Holmes was smart.

I remember Holmes turning the Cooney fight into a racial issue. Sure, it helped make the event even bigger, but it was distasteful and Cooney didn't want any part of it. Plus there were the infamous Rocky Marciano "jockstrap" comments. And since he left boxing all I ever hear is him do is crap on the heavyweights who have succeeded him.

But I definitely respected tremendous Holmes' skills and his independence from Don King. If I remember correctly, Larry is the main reason we have an IBF now. When he got rid of King he vacated the WBC belt and he gave the IBF instant credibility by defending the lineal title under their banner.

Agreed on those points, Scott, but still feel he got more hate then he deserved, not saying he didn't deserve any dislike though.
