What phone call?" It was a strange and cheap way for Lewis to give himself an excuse to avoid a rematch when the first fight left many unanswered questions and with Lewis certainly not proving he was better than, Vitali.

Mayweather, right at the end of his career gave Maidana another shot because he knew he had questions to answer, and he did, if he did not rematch Maidana, I'd have that same ? hanging over Mayweather's head.

Lets say we grant him that ridiculous assertion: So? I guess Roy Jones was scared of Hopkins and Toney because even though he beat them he did not rematch them... until after it all mattered. I guess when a fighter wins a fight he has other obligations because others may assume his winning effort was not enough.

This is the same crap many fans of British fighters seem to mucky mucky in regarding promoters. Everyone knows how Joshua feels about fighting, and how the promoters act on contracts. Just like everyone knows that Lewis was scared of Vitali, and had to retire! it just gets to the heart of the matter: Lewis could never do anything right to the public. Why? Because he was articulate, intelligent, successful and did not represent what John Q thinks a heavyweight should be about. We wanted Tyson! Rahman! Not Nigel!

Sometimes at the bottom of a barrel you can always find something worthwhile. We all must respect Nash, he gathered my respect long ago, and Queenie, well, we all know that is really Sally Field and she has earned her stripes too. Nash out - His Majesty

Sonny had one insurmountable obstacle in his time.

                  He was black.

Lewis had one insurmountable obstacle at the time.

                  He was not a yank.

Things are different now thank goodness, the savage racism and jingoism of the US boxing press has largely gone.

                  At their very best.

                  Pick em.

Lewey I'd reckon but he wouldn't do it pretty. Long rang and lots of holding.

I could not bet on Liston's questionable heart. Liston is some kind of apotheosis around here lately. And of course Lewis is still everyone's favorite whipping boy. Lewis fought a lot of tough opponents. His opponents were much tougher than Liston's. All Liston really has is Williams, which admittedly is quite a lot but still only one opponent. Machen could box, but he was not a dangerous opponent. I think it will be an interesting fight and probably exciting as well. Each man is capable of a KO. In a prolonged fight I have to go with Lewis, though it is a close decision. Liston won the title and lost it in his first defense by quitting on his stool. In the rematch he did not even want to wait long enough to quit on his stool. So he faked being KOd in the first round.
