I read once that Kilrain took between six and 12 knees in a row after Sullivan hurt him bad. Got himself a considerable rest, so he could continue (already concussed.)

Most bare knuckle fighters wrestled eachother to the ground often. Rounds often lasting less than 30 seconds.

Re Bold: I have read that The Great John L. Would crop his hair short and shave his handle bar mustache off for his fights.

Preferred gloved fights because he hated being grabbed, especially by the hair. He always wanted to punch not grapple.

[EDIT] There no mention of the...

  • Yeah, well . . . who knows more about trains, the pedestrian being told what is what by the sanctioning body conductor, or the train spotter who can tell a freight hauler from a high speeder a good half-mile out?...

I don't buy that. I think the problem is us not the technology.

Make everyone post under their real name with a photo of themselves, instead of the masks we wear and then let's see how people act....

More trivia you might already know.

Sinatra used to do his national anthem thing at the local prize fights. Sometimes singing tunes between bouts. Hoboken had multi venues.

Frank may have been drawn there because his father had a short career (6-9-0) as a fighter in the 1920s....

Worked for a guy back in the 70s. He grew up in Hoboken. He told me that Sinatra was this skinny kid who use to appear at the neighborhood sporting events and picnics with an amplifier and a microphone and sing the National Anthem.

He was already a local celebrity in his very early teens....

  • I still argue that the word "'undisputed" implies there are disputes to be had.

The Lineal title is eternal and like Cesar's wife, beyond su****ion....

  • The question for me has always been. Had Ali been allowed to continue he would likely have tangled with Frazier in late '68 or early '69.

Would Ali, on a three defense a year schedule, been in such a zone that he would have cut Frazier to ribbons, or would he have looked past him, appearing...

  • The 'five" is throwing me off.

I could name Dempsey, but he's just a favorite historical interest not a favorite fighter.

My favorite fighters of my lifetime don't have five great KOs to their credit.

I can name Nino Benvenuti (as I was an Italian kid growing...

  • But who can fake being the lineal champion?

If a fighter claims such a title it would mean nothing to me. I would have alrrady decided if he was or was not all on my own.

Where as if a SB announces this guy is a champion, now that means nothing to me. I have no opinion on the...

  • Do you mean Mozart's character as a man, then maybe! But only just maybe.

The relationship with Sallieri; the entire plot of the film was based on a conspiracy theory created a hundred years after Mozart's death.

Historians across the board thought the film fantasy not his...

  • There is no one "around the lineal title" - if it is illusional as you say then no one can have authority; no one can be corrupt without authority. So no corruption.

Try a different complaint. Corruption makes no sense....

  • You're a harsh person. Let me be harsher. (Sometimes) I think people with low IQs don't develop an inner-voice. They don't talk to themselves, and become subservient to outside influences, e.g. religion, politics, media, cults, easily because they are incapable of navigating the nuances of ethics and...

  • I don't like scoring fights. I mean I don't like that fights are scored.

IMO there is no such thing as a 10-9 round.

    With that said . . .

The fight, The FOC, was even except for the 11th and 15th rounds, which went to Frazier big. That was the fight; that was Frazier's...

  • OK let's say all that is true.

The fact that it was on PPV and not HBO regular subscription tells you that the fans saw more value in the lineal title than they did in the "undisputed" HBO marketing scheme.

We are arguing whether there is legitimacy to the lineal...

  • If I thought it was the two best fighters squaring off, then it would likely be lineal, so I would want to buy it.

To me Tyson-Spinks was a title fight. Tyson-Berbick was just a SB title fight. I was much more excited by Tyson-Spinks then I was by any of his three SB title fights leading...

  • I won't argue with you definition, there is some legitimacy there, but I think it very unlikely that advocates of the lineal title like us can be grouped as "naive."

I would suggest that we are less likely to be 'parted from our money' than most.

    We are a discerning...
