    Does it matter?

This conversation should be about Norman Rothschild the financial backer who pulled this fight out of his azz and sold it.

    That's achievement worth noting.

Although he may have lost a few bucks on the fight. He got much advertising for his Seattle based public relations firm.

Rademacher was a local boy and a Seattle hero. The fight drew 16k for a < $250k gate

Rothschild's company specialized in marketing, promotions, and events publicity. Rothschild was known as a savvy promoter with a showbiz flair.

Like the Shelby, Montana Dempsey-Gibbons go, it was meant more to sell the company than to make money.

Unlike Shelby, Rothschild came close to making back his nut.

So it was remembered as a positive but not a money maker.

Jack Hurley did the actual fight promotion. Rothschild was a Donald Trump type, he put up the money and then called himself the promoter.

But to his credit, it was his brainchild. He found the money and promoted the hell out of it.

You know you're good when you can sell nothing and make it work.

    P.S. Queen,

Sorry for my digression into the pol-eco aspects, yet again. I have no knowledge as to how good Pete was. He did score a KD against Patterson before he took a beating.

But then again Patterson went down 22 times in 11 different fights. So the KD doesn't put him in any elite club.

His most impressive achievement was winning the gold medal in heavyweight boxing at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. How good he was.

        - - Didn't know the Rothschilds got into boxing.

The fact that debutante scores a hard KD early is a testament to Pete's talent. He did beat Lamar Clark, then 42-1 with 40 something KOs whom Ali fought the next year, and then whooped George Chuvalo who not so long afterward put Ali in the hospital.

I'd say he was bumrushed based his his Gold Medal popularity. Lived to be 91, so he had a formidable constitution.

Lamar Clark never beat a fighter with a winning record and was stopped when he did try to take a small step up.

I would be interested in knowing what happened in the Chuvalo fight though.
