Just box like you can, at the beginning i had that ****** attitude of wanting to fight with my hands down like Roy Jones but that wasn't effective, so i watched a lot of fights and worked hard on the basics. I finally used a defensive counter attacking style that suits me better.

Do a lot of shadow boxing, steal some tips from Pernell and try it in sparring sessions. The most important is to not get discouraged that you don't look like him. Adapt his tactics to your style and see what works and doesn't.
After every session you should ask yourself that: "What did and what didn't work? What do i have to do to make it work? What am i ready to do to make it happen?" If you keep a positive attitude, there is NO WAY, you won't improve and be good.

Ali did the same from Jersey Walcott, SRR and got his ass kicked when he tried it first. After a couple of weeks he became the best man of his gym.

Don't go in with the mindset that you're going to box like Pernell Whitaker.

Learn the basics first. Then grow from it in a way that best suits you, if you can compare yourself to a certain fighter watch their tapes and see how they move their feet position their body and throw their punches etc. and use it as a basis.

saying reflexes is genetic is like saying you have to be born with the ability to box, reflexes can be improved by doing reflexed specific exercises for example pad work with your trainer.

Force Pernell Whitaker's mom to have sex with Pernell Whitaker's dad. Then, subject the resulting child to exactly the same upbringing and boxing regiment that Pernell Whitaker endured.

So you should be able to dodge pro-speed punches as baby? No...
Like most things you can train and better your skills to a certain extent.

Also I doubt Pernell Whitaker asked himself how could he box like Pernell Whitaker. He trained and boxed, studied techniques and styles maybe, eventually coming to fruition as his own style (possibly).

First off don't listen to the people who tell you that you're born with a style. That's not true. Maybe you can be born with better reflexes than another person but you can't be born with a style. A style is developed.

I started boxing when I was 15 and over time I tried learning a few styles and I did. The way I learned them was watching them. You have to study and learn their styles by watching them fight.

I remember I used to try and box like Ali. I was good with my feet and I had good speed but I didn't want to risk leaving my chin open. I experimented with some more and found that the easiest and most relaxed style for me at the moment is the shoulder roll. Floyd Mayweather does it and I'm trying to learn it to perfect it like him.

So don't listen to what people say. You may not be as good as him or you may even be better. Just practice and you'll find out. If it doesn't work out, go to a new style. Use what's best and more natural for you.

Btw, you might want to do reflex exercises because his style was built around perfect reflexes.
