I have these, each provides a different style. Electric, Classical, 12 String Acoustic.

I'll go with a les paul, but must be of good quality. You can get by with cheap parts strat with good pickups but a crappy les paul is pretty much doomed. A nice 1959 reissue would be killer since the real ones are worth a nice house.

Have a 72 strat and various acoustics.

Depends on what it is you are trying to get from them.

It's crazy what can be done digitally although a really gifted ear will always know how or which...luckily that is not me
