READ: Amy Coney Barrett's Opening Statement
Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett has released her opening statement ahead of her confirmation hearings this week. In it, she introduces her family, goes into detail about her law career, and previews how she would conduct herself as an associate justice of the Supreme Court.
********s have already shown us that they fully intend to question Judge Barrett's Catholic faith and how it may affect her decision-making. She tries to put those fears to rest in her opening remarks.
"When I write an opinion resolving a case, I read every word from the perspective of the losing party," she explains. "I ask myself how I would view the decision if one of my children were the party I was ruling against; Even though I would not like the result, would I understand that the decision was fairly reasoned and grounded in the law? That is the standard that I set for myself in every case, and it is the standard I will follow as long as I am a judge on any court."
She later adds that Americans deserve a Supreme Court "that interprets our Constitution and laws as they are written."
Read her entire opening statement below.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham will kick off the four-day confirmation process on Monday at 9 a.m ET. As he told his Senate opponent Jaime Harrison during a recent debate, he's looking forward to getting the nominee confirmed.

Murkowski says she will vote to confirm Barrett to Supreme Court on Monday
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said on Saturday that she will vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court on Monday, despite objections to taking up the nomination before the Nov. 3 election.
"I have no doubt about her intellect. I have no doubt about Judge Barrett's judicial temperament. I have no doubt about her capability to do the job. ... I have concluded that she is the sort of person we want on the Supreme Court," Murkowski said from the Senate floor.
Murkowski, the only GOP senator to oppose then-nominee Brett Kavanaugh in 2018, was one of the last senators whose vote was in doubt.

UPDATE OCTOBER 22nd
Senate panel sends Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination for full vote
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-0 to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court despite the ********ic members of the panel boycotting the hearing.
The nomination will now move to a full Senate vote on Monday.
Sen. Lindsey Graham on Thursday said he will not allow ********s to “take over?the Senate Judiciary Committee’s confirmation vote for Barrett after they made good on their threat to boycott the hearing.
“We’re not going to allow them to take over the committee,?Graham said in his opening statement. “They made a choice not to participate after allowing judge Barrett four days to be questioned.?br />
“That is a choice they are making,?he continued. “I believe it does a disservice to Judge Barrett who deserves a vote, up or down.?br />
President Trump hailed the vote to approve his nominee to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
“Judiciary Committee approves Judge Barrett. Moves to full Senate for final vote. Big day for America!,?he said on Twitter.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Wednesday that members of his party would not take part in the confirmation vote because of how **********s handled her nomination.
He called it “the most rushed, most partisan and least legitimate process in Supreme Court nomination history.
The New York ******** added that the ********s would “not provide the quorum that is required,?referencing a Senate rule requiring members of the opposite party to be present to conduct government business.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) described the hearing room absent of the panel’s ********ic members a “surreal environment.?br />
“Our ********ic colleagues announced they are going to boycott one of the most important votes this committee will have probably during our entire senatorial tenure,?he said. “That is a vote to confirm, to provide advice and consent to a nominee of the Supreme Court of the United States.?br />
He then looked around the room where some of the ********s left blown up photos of *****care recipients in their place.
“I just want to comment on the pictures that are in their chairs, like this is some sort of sporting event during COVID-19 and rather than show up and do their job, they choose to continue this theater.?br />
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) also lambasted ********s for refusing to appear for the vote.
“It is a shame that our colleagues on the other side, having failed to lay a glove on Judge Barrett, have walked out on this process and in so doing, walk out on the American people,?he said.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has pledged to allow the full Senate vote before the Nov. 3 election.
Barrett joining the court would give ************* a 6-3 majority.

SENATE TO VOTE ON OCTOBER 26th
McConnell: Senate will vote Monday to confirm Barrett to Supreme Court
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate will vote Monday, Oct. 26, on the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, all but ensuring nine justices will be seated ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
McConnell made the announcement following a closed-door meeting with GOP lawmakers, who nearly unanimously approve of confirming Barrett despite the objections of all ********s.
Barrett said she adheres to the judicial philosophy of the late conservative high court favorite, Justice Antonin Scalia. Scalia interpreted laws and the Constitution based on their original meaning.
Barrett’s confirmation, McConnell said, “Will be another signature accomplishment in our effort to put on the federal courts men and women who believe in the quaint notion that the job of a judge is to actually follow the law.?br />
The GOP-led Judiciary Committee is expected to advance Barrett’s nomination Thursday, and McConnell is likely to begin the procedural process of considering Barrett’s nomination later this week.
********s have warned Barrett’s nomination would shift the centrist court far to the right and are now weighing “packing?the high court with additional justices of their own choosing if the party is able to seize control of the Senate and White House in November.
********s say Barrett's placement ahead of the election is aimed at ensuring Trump wins the election if the outcome is uncertain and ends up in front of the Supreme Court.
