Why is ONLY CALI banning Uber/Lyft?

Why is ONLY the state of Cali banning Uber/Lyft?

Why are no other states temporarily ceasing operations?

So my understanding is Uber/Lyft drives want to be employees verses independent contractors. Fine whatever but why is the state of Cali stopping all Uber/Lyft but none of the other 49 states stopping as well?

Could you imagine if we gotta take taxis again? F Taxis, we all got the worst horror stories getting F'd over and abused by Cabbies. F Cabbies!

Let alone getting a Cabbie to even stop for you!

Cali isn't stopping or ceasing Ubers or Lyfts operations, from what I understand they are making it a requirement for them to treat the drivers as employees and not independent contractors. Thus because of this Uber and Lyft are voluntarily ceasing operations in Cali, but not other states that do not mandate this.

This is what ******** do. And CA is our most ******* State.

They enact bans and regulations on businesses, and in some cases the businesses cannot operate under the bans and regulations and they close up shop.

It's a perfect example of over-regulation killing off jobs that workers work and services customers like.

        Remember that when you vote.

The politicans in Cali seem to think that Uber and Lyft are obligated to pay their workers what the politicans think they should pay their workers and not what Uber or Lyft believes they should pay their workers. NVM that you don't have to work for Uber or Lyft if you don't want to.

Uber and Lyft hire drivers as independent contractors. Independent contractors are considered outside hired guns and therefore do not have taxes taken out of their check, nor do they receive any benefits, or are obligated to be paid minimum wage, they are considered as their own business therefore they are responsible for their own well being. So Uber and Lyft hires you so long as you pass your background check as a independent contractor, sends you the money for every trip you make and after that has absolutely no more obligation toward you. Cali politicians want to make it so that Uber and Lyft treats their drivers not as independent contractors but as actual employees of the company who have to make the minimum wage according to Cali state law, and receive benefits if eligible.

Problem is, Uber and Lyft are already operating at a loss and are not projected to be profitable until like 2022. So to do this would cripple them even more. In other words get ready to say hello to your taxi cab driver again if you live in Cali.

When the company is already losing money. The pay you have now or lose your job. You pick.

When the company providing the jobs pulls out of the state and the job doesn't exist anymore. Yes, it is a bad thing.
