[REAL TALK] Freedom of Speech--how long before it's gone for good?

I see a lot of deniers out there insisting that our freedom of speech rights are not under attack and we are still free to speak our minds, express our opinions, and voice our disapproval. Yet, each day people lose their jobs in both private and public sectors for saying something that doesn't align with the current political climate of the left. They seem to think that just because you weren't arrested and thrown in jail that you still have the freedom to express yourself without angry mobs protesting and intimidating the individual, their employers, sponsors, etc.

I can cite endless examples of people losing their livelihood or being assaulted for saying all lives matter or wearing a MAGA hat. There is legislation in the works to arrest people who call 911 on ********** if they feel threatened and it turns out to be a false alarm or "overreaction". If you use the wrong adjective to describe someone from the ***** community it's a hate crime.

How free do you really feel speaking your mind and expressing what you believe?

Will probably be the next time a ******** is president.

But I speak my mind regardless. I couldn't care less that people are offended by the truth, but that's the world we live in

I think you & many get freedom of speech confused. Freedom of speech is about the government not fooking you over or killing you for things you say. And it's arguable how true that is when you see people like that army transgender man/lady or WikiLeaks guy get locked up among other stances the US has had with outspoken folks.

There isn't nor has there ever been freedom of citizens from treating people who say things they see as fooked up badly or firing them or what have you. Citizen vs Citizen opinions got NOTHING to do with freedom of speech.

You will be fired in the US for sharing government crime data without comment, but in most of the EU you would also be sentenced to prison. The UK in particular, when you read their legal code and look at case precedents, is basically just a polished up wealthier North Korea.

Free speech ceased to exist in both regions a while ago but the methods of intimidation differ.

For now, in the US, if you're wealthy enough to survive without an employer, you can communicate (albeit mostly without words, just using the "Hm, isn't this graph interesting?" method).

I don't see that lasting very long, though.

Average IQ is in free fall, fewer and fewer of America's inhabitants have any cultural/historical links to the importance of the 1st/2nd *********s and classrooms no longer teach it. Every year support for "hate speech laws" including prison sentences grows.

You are probably going to live to see the day where disagreeing with an obvious hoax or clickbait news article results in your home being raided or your finances audited for "national security".

When governments pass legislation that protects some and not all, that is a loss of freedoms for some. When you are shadow-banned by extremely powerful tech giants, beaten without consequence for supporting a political candidate or rallying against one, or fired and/or charged with hate crimes for benign criticisms it is very much an infringement on your freedom of speech. Particularly when state and local governments idly stand by and do nothing to protect you.

Luckily no matter how ****** American voters, the supreme court will be right leaning for a long time to keep a re tard ******** Congress and president in check.

I respectfully disagree. Look up what happened during the McCarthy hearings... What got people in trouble? Citizens accusing other citizens of being communists and Hollywood blackballing entertainers. The citizenry did the work... the government, via McCarthy only stirred the people up.

It became so bad that people were afraid to speak out against the government for fear of being blacklisted, fear of McCarthy, a senator conducting these witch hunts. That is exactly what is happening now. The people are being used to censor each other. The government, in this case the dems, are using this as a political means to an end...very dangerous.
