A father, a man respected in his community in Brooklyn, a Black man saw a stand off about to occur regarding a curfew. The man stepped up, negotiated a truce with the police, they would violate the curfew but he would guarantee his people were held in check. Im not going to lie, it hit me hard...It gave me a sense of hope. It ended well. Nobody hurt, and the protestors what did they use that time for? was it to declare systematic oppression in a country where regardless, there still are more opportunities for all? was it to mutter maladictions against the police?
The protestors sung happy birthday to a victim of police brutality in Louisville. Cops and protesters fist bumped and went home.
I still believe that this process can take place in this country. Even as the media inflames, even as destroyers try to make the protests about destroying rather than people's grief...we are alas still America. A country of immigrants, hard working individuals, and love for each other. Ronald Reagan once muttered something intelligent against all odds (lol) he said: "When the Green men attack, it won't matter if your brother is white or black!"
