I was acting up once in a casino big game and I am sure they got sick of me and then I found myself with 8 9 of hearts and a queen high straight flush right on the flop. You can guess what the other player had. It was a short game where the deck would easier to set up. I always felt sure I got cold decked on that one.
Casinos don't cheat at poker or at any game , there's way too much to lose. The rake is the only thing that matters to the casino , no one cares who wins or loses , unless you're a jerk off who doesn't take care of the dealers. Then they care , but they still aren't going to rig the deck on you. People tell themselves that because it's easier than accepting that absolutely anything can and will happen on any given hand. I spent 26 years in the business , I might know a little something about it.
I'm talking about brick and mortar casinos which are regulated by gaming commissions, not whatever the online games claim to be. Online"casinos" I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them.

I need to find some poker players either in Austin or Marble Falls. Help a brother out, fellas!

Mostly true. Then again I can't imagine a major casino without at least one card shark dealer somewhere on the payroll doing mostly honest work.

Anything can happen because there are more arrangements of a 52 card deck than grains of sand on earth; far, far more--billions of times more. Intuition would not think so, but those are the facts. Who would have thunk it? In all the decades and centuries since people and machines have been shuffling cards in tournaments and live play, counting every shuffle they ever made not just the ones they dealt from, they have barely scratched the surface of all those deck arrangements. In fact, so relatively few compared to the total that I believe the same arrangement may have never been used twice randomly. It is a 19 digit number vs a 68 digit one

        * * * * * *

For a world champion to squall like Helmuth is a disgrace. Did he forget? Every variance is possible. This is daily stuff in poker. A real man gets used to it and does not bawl like a calf every time something normal doesn't go his way.

Those are key concepts and skills for any serious player to know.

My desire vacillates between tourneys and cash play. More chance to win frequently in cash play.

I always say that being a great pianist does not make you a great pipe organist. Tourney and live play are analogously, at the least that different.

          Good luck!

My favorite poker games are easily 52 pick up and goldfish.

My friends piss me off when they play poker cuz they boring white bread casual players.

Everytime it’s the same thing. Tournament style Texas Hold ‘Em. Every. Time.

No “dealer calls game” cuz God forbid you mix it up every once in a while and switch up the game like 7 card stud duces wild or something. Or a 5 card draw. Games are stooopid simple it’s not like I’d throw them something like some weird card game with f’ed up rules.

and tournament. It’s always gotta be “winner take all.”

F#ck that. Whatever happened to just play for 3 hrs or something, count how much you have and cash out? When I go to a casino I’m not entering some goddamn tournament structure.

These guys I play with grew up on watching Texas Hold ‘Em at 2:00 AM on ESPN or something I swear to god. It’s literally all they know. They legit piss me off. And then when I tell them, “you know you don’t have to play like this every time?” Falls on deaf ears. Next time they play, I’m sitting out. I’ll watch.

It is what it is though and a game is better than no game. You could suggest paying two places to your buddies. Is it a one table tournament? You just have to play better than them at Hold'em. I like a variety of games too. Omaha-8 is a great game. Takes its own set of skills. Omaha pot limit high is a game it takes a while to adapt to and know the value of your hands. I would call it more of a challenge. Don't care for short-deck Hold'em.

Another thing you might suggest is changing the game for each round in, say, four different games in prearranged order then start over at the end of the first four rounds, Make them all solid games with no wild card. Stud hands take longer to play; that is one of the weaknesses of stud. Even to alternate rounds between Hold'em and Omaha would be a big improvement, right?

****ing tell me about it. It’s my turn to host a game tomorrow with some pals. I end up getting so frustrated, they get drunk and forget it’s their turn to play/call etc. The game becomes never ending, I end up playing terrible hands trying to force the game so I can go home.

If there is no money involved it is not actual poker but just the framework of it. For toothpicks I can call anybody with anything. When money gets there, everyone changes--they don't just call every time out of curiosity.

You may not have the feel yet. A serious player as one of his first tasks must be able to look at any board at any stage and instantly know the nuts for that board without having to think of it. I consider that a starting point.

Idk we don’t play a lot that’s probably part of it. We play like, maybe once a year if that. It’s usually just when we’re all in agreement and can get together, which is hard cuz half of them have wives and kids. They too set in their ways. But yeah I like the idea.
