The PROC "china" is fine with Taiwan claiming "china" as the ROC

It's been that way for 70+ years

And Taiwan govt claiming to be china (25 mil vs 1.4 bil difference in population) is laughable

What the PROC doesn't want is Taiwan to declare itself as the independent country of taiwan

      Remember

Until 1971 ROC "china" was represented by the govt in Taiwan

And most of the world recognized it as "china" and had embassies for the Taiwan govt

The only ones who recognized the peoples republic of China PROC as china before 1971 was other commie countries
You said there was a recent election...

They know that'll provoke a war possibly.
I quoted you because this is not true. KMT is NOT in power, and Taiwan already considers themselves as independent.

Yes, and they already consider themselves independent. Hence, the looming conflict. China wants to impose a One China agenda.

They have 2 kinds of elections in Taiwan

        National and local elections

Recent local elections the KMT won most of the seats

That was being taken as a message to current leadership

Their next national elections will be next year I think

I dont know how to explain it to you

          But ill try again

The republic of China (taiwan) had always acted like an independent country and claimed to be an independent country

But it did so as CHINA

          Still does officially

the name of the island is taiwan/Formosa

The country is the republic of China

When ppl are talking about independence

They are talking about declaring itself as not China but as a new country taiwan/Formosa

          There's a difference

Especially to the mainland Chinese and Taiwanese chinese

I don't know what I've posted that makes you think I don't understand this. Yes, they want to declare themselves independent, and believe they already are.

How can you not believe I understand this, I made this thread to outline that Antony Blinken just declared support for China's position against it.

If you understand it then what you're saying doesn't make sense

there is no independent Taiwan right now

They are the republic of China ROC

Mainland China is peoples republic of China PROC

That's not being independent of China technically

That's claiming to be the government of China

              I dont get it

You claim you understand but your opinion doesn't reflect this understanding

The PROC (mainland) and ROC (taiwan) both claim to be the govt of all of China

To be independent taiwan has to stop claiming to be the govt of China which they haven't done officially

God damn Tua...I know this. Regardless, and unofficially consider themselves to be so.

The current Tsai Ing-wen administration of Taiwan maintains that Taiwan is already an independent country as the Republic of China (ROC) and thus does not have to push for any sort of formal independence.

claiming "republic of china" is not being independent

It's claiming to be the govt of all of China

                  Mainland China doesn't mind that

                  Real independent Taiwan means war

                  US doesn't want that

                  Taiwan doesn't want that

                  At least not yet

Like I mentioned the recent local elections

KMT (nationalist chinese) won more than the DPP (nationalist Taiwan)

The writing is on the wall

Taiwanese voters are not ready to instigate China

Status quo will work for now

Status quo doesn't hurt anyone, either side

The US didnt greenlight China on Taiwan

For all you know the DPP is backing off their independence drive for a little bit

There's elections coming up and they might not want to lose power over this issue
