    I'm impressed he fought

Let alone last 1 round against heavy hitter that outweighs him by 50 lbs

I looked up the royce-sak fight

Its was 90 minutes long not 45 minutes

    6 x 15 minute rounds

Imagine fighting 90 minutes and still fighting again same night

Royce demanded crazy rules for the fight, one of them was "no time limit"

He fought the 1st round of the grand prix under normal rules.

Takada stalled and laid on him like crazy.

gracies style is not beneficial to modern mma rules which copied boxing to become legal in the us.

He certainly ditched that gi later on. It helped him get a lot of wins at the start.

He liked the gi in the beginning because he said he could get a hold of them better even when they're sweaty or oiled up.

Also he said they would instinctively grab the gi which he preferred over them punching his sides.

Also when they hold his gi, it helps him get subs and moves initiated.

Problem is when guys know grappling too, they use to gi against him or like Takada to stall and hold.

Like Shamrock with the idea of using shoes early on would give him an advantage

                  If you're a wrestler

                  Shoes are very advantageous

Most orgs dont let u kick with shoes but if you're a wrestler what do u care about kicking back then?

but it gave you hella traction when you're wrestling

Problem is the submission guys go for the shoes and do foot locks

they can't pull their foot out as easily when they have shoes on

Hence why they stopped wearing shoes

I do wish mma did fighting in gi and shoes

                  More realistic

                  Closer to a street fight

no one here is doing any fighting on the street in their underwear barefoot.

You're gonna have clothes and shoes on.

Mma fights with gis and wrestling shoes are closer to a real fight

The best was the guy who came in like Balrog and had a boxing glove on one hand.
