Gary told the High Performance Podcast: “Without being good at sport, life would have been very different for me because I was, I think I would have been bullied at school, I was kind of marginally that way anyway because I was this tiny geeky kid, with darkish skin and I had pretty much racist abuse although I’m not, I’m as English as they come."
Lineker has largely received ridicule amongst confusion as to why he hasn't named names, however he has been praised by The Guardian for speaking out- ' Lineker’s comments were important and insightful – giving us a glimpse of how race and racism can work.'
Lineker, despite not living in America, has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and conservative policies in general. He pocketed the largest salary from the BBC, funded by tax payer money, earning 1.36 million to host match of the day and was named in the Panama Papers. He has also backed the campaign to decriminalise drugs. Lineker was one of the driving forces behind the *** 'take the knee' campaign before distancing himself from the organisation due to anti-Semitic tweets.
