                    Funny thing is America was already winning without ever firing a shot... that was the problem for the Empire of Nippon. The good ol' Manifest Destiny never stopped when those wagons and railroads reached the west coast, they basically just went rolling right across the Pacific with their Black Ships and their enforced trade deals and the acquistion of the Phillippines and the China trade. The Japanese bascially realised that unless they could do something radical to shift the balance of power they were gonna get quietly choked out in their own back yard. It was along shot - which Yamamoto in particular understood right from the get go - but it was their only shot at becoming a world power, at least under their own terms

                      We cut off that Jap oil. They had no option but to attack. We knew it would happen.
