CDC: Face Masks Don’t Prevent COVID-19, Study Finds

The CDC along with the media in this country are misleading. One has to read carefully to ascertain what the statement about masks and profelactic actions really says. Nowhere does it say masks are a way to prevent catching the virus. What it says is that if someone is already infected, saliva will not spread out if a mask is worn. To many of us, aside from balancing the need for civic action, with an insult to our intelligence, it is obvious that the real way to stop the spread of the illness is social distancing, and social distancing alone. So, could a restaurant, for example, operate? yes... As long as people understood the risk, people preparing the food perhaps used a profelactic remedy, and people were spaced out a bit more than usual.

What happened is places like San Francisco took advantage of people's ignorance and destroyed livlihoods, so they could seen as being proactive with the virus. People in this country were faced with a real dilmna: What about civility? So, for example, I had no real problem wearing a mask for going out... But when it came to pushing the narrative, and shutting down businesses, it went too far. Notice how big business was exempt... Airlines for example, could not even be bothered to not seat the middle seat on flights...

People are now asking why, if it was never established that masks were preventative, masks should be worn. And many of us would love to biatch slap politicians who could have acted in the public interest and explained that people were responsible for social distancing to prevent transmission, instead of acting against the people. What good is telling restaurants not to open, if people are sitting together in a park a block away? Either way, people are responsible for assuming the risk and government is limited what they can do.

Will this wake people up? I doubt it. What about when China Joe destroys us and Washington is back to doing nothing for nobody? Will people wake up? doubt it. Trump is rumored to s hit on himself, and many people would not want to socialize with him... But Pelosi gets a pass? This women has, her entire life fed off the public trough and done nothing for anyone but her own interests and could not even be bothered to abide by her own self serving policies.

Yea it's working, my N95 with a surgical(double masks before double masks were "cool") and faceshield with gowns works that I still got covid, but yea it works. But again, keep wearing your mask and go by what someone else tells you what to do, keep being the sheep you are, take care.

A lot of folks don't understand that the mask was supposed to be for those who have something. So if someone is trying to wear a surgical mask to protect them from something air borne, that's not too likely.

At work we get covid tested twice a week, and when we get our negative tests, you'd think that'd be enough to not have to wear the mask anymore(since there's nothing we should be passing since we just showed to be negative) yet we still have to wear a mask, but the thing that makes it worst, is rather than offer an explanation on why the mask is still needed, we're given a "shut up and do it" response.

If wearing a mask makes people feel safe then whatever, but when you start doing the "shut up and do it" mentality, that's where my beef is

I just checked the CDC website and there is no such evidence and OANN is an agenda driven news network back by the former President.

after all the censoring, you don't think google is removing it from the search? it's still surprising to you that you can't find anything? heck even ebay is removing it's dr suess books. But what makes OAN an agenda driven news network, is there evidence on that or that it backs Trump? Because they're not reporting something you see on CNN that makes it agenda driven? But there's the study right there. Like I mentioned to the previous poster, OAN is reporting an actual study, it'd be something if OAN was blowing shit out of their ass and making things up, yet how are they getting hated on for sharing an actual study?

Fauchi himself last year said masks don't really do too much yet his tone has changed drastically. There's plenty of other studies that have shown masks weren't working.

Wear the mask around elderly or people at risk, yet to shut down the economy or force people?

Yes... that "shut up and do it" is toxic. I agree. It not only disrespectful but it demands that people buy into it. It is an insult to intelligence.

Bottom line of the report:

At 81-100 days after a state wide mask mandate is put in place they show a 1.8% reduction in cases and a 1.9% reduction in deaths.

Specifically for restaurants that allowed on-premise dining, at 81-100 days after opening up they saw an increase in cases of 1.1% and a increase in deaths of 3.0%.

Cloth face masks in the general population might be effective, at least in some circumstances, but there is currently little to no evidence supporting this proposition. If the coronavirus is indeed transmitted via indoor aerosols, cloth masks are unlikely to be protective. Health authorities should therefore not assume or suggest that cloth face masks will reduce the rate or risk of infection.
