Unfortunately, they're not free. Almost though, .49 cents each. And so far the only premium avatars they got added are LBP ones.

I read about these, I don't really know why people wanted these so much.
But I suppose it so rudimentary that they should be free, that along with cross game chat. Have you heard about the new PSN, they might charge for PSN kind of like Xbox live Gold and Silver
Except the "silver" PSN service will have all the stuff they have now like online play, PSN downloads/demos, text chat, game invites, PSN store, Home etc.
The "Gold" service will have cross game chat, hour long trials for full PS3 games, Free Psone classics, Cloud Storage (storing save data online rather than on hard drive), Tokens (kind of vouchers for discounts on PSN items I assume you build them up), Netflix without disc, Hulu support (whatever this is), Free PSP minis and premium themes.
The gold service is merely a rumour so far but the proposed plans are $69.99 a year among other plans. That price isn't a lock but I'd pay that for free PSone games, tokens, Minis, themes and all the other stuff.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as EVERYTHING that is available now for free stays for free and that the Premium is for extra's like 1hour demo's, cross game chat maybe better considerations to Beta's etc.
