No such thing as "too late" man, it's all in your mind. As long as you have the desire, that's all you need. I started at 33 with no prior experience, after years of serious chronic illness, which I still struggle with. But once I got my health to a point where I could train, I haven't looked back.
It's only too late if you believe it's too late, we create our own realities.
Boxing is helping me reclaim my health, I refuse to go back to being as sick as I was, no doctors could help me or even figure out my condition, they actually hurt me by prescribing drugs when they had no clue, they didnt care about the cause, they just tried to treat the symptoms. had to take control and figure it out on my own, and now I am boxing, when a year ago I could barely walk or breathe, had to use oxygen at night, constant brain fog, and lots of other issues. I will continue training to enhance my health so hopefully I never go back to the sickly point I was at for several years.
So never let anyone tell you it's too late, you are the only one who can decide that. If you have the real desire to train, just start. It has helped me in all aspects of my life. It may not be easy in the beginning, but with dedication it gets easier and easier, just don't skip a workout and don't slack off. Training is an investment in YOU, and pays off like nothing else I've ever found.
Hope my little rant helps motivate you, YOU GOT THIS!

You seem to already realise that competing at a decent level is asking too much. Training, meh, it depends on the gym.

Some gyms don't want inexperienced old people around (especially if they're unfit), except to pay their dues: 'you're too old to learn properly, so why waste my time' sorta thing... so just be careful of that, you might not get a lot of attention from trainers at first, wherever you go. It might be even worth getting a few one-on-one sessions. But find a good gym, stick it out, earn their respect, etc., and you're golden

Boxing is a very rewarding sport IF you put the work in, no matter how old you are. If you just want the experience of being in the ring one time, sign up to a White Collar Fights-type thing. If you want to make a lifestyle change, ask around and find a good gym and stick at it. Good luck

It's not too late, I did it at 32 & came in 2nd place for the Diamond Gloves Tournament. Just stay disciplined at keep away from the bad habits like smoking, drinking & bad eating.....Good luck!

thanks everyone for great replys. Im semi fit just now but I smoke a lot.
Maybe worth while doing a training regime on my own for 4-6 weeks before hitting a gym?

Definitely drop the smoking, try the patch it worked for me, smoke free 5 years now. And working out on your own is fine, lots of youtube videos with great instruction. Just be sure to drill the fundamentals, be strict with your form, don't want to develop bad habits. Shadow box with a mirror. Get a heavy bag, double end bag, speed bag, jump rope. Free interval/round timer apps on phone. Some don't recommend, but I hit the weights a couple times a week as well. Run, bike or calisthenics, lots of ways to start without joining a gym, but best bet is to join a good gym when you can with a good trainer. I track my diet with MyFitnessPal app on my phone, works great.

Some have started later than that. Competing at decent level might be asking a lot.

No, not too late. You are picking a new habit, a new activity for your life. You will enjoy it and make bunch of new friends. Yea, you won't make money as a pro but money is not everything.
