If the basic needs are in place you might have a shot but if any of these are missing you have no shot!

Twenty two is very old to start fresh in a sport that must be a life style to be a pro! Most of the pro fighters talked about on this forum started boxing at 12 years old. That pretty much sums it up.

    No trainer yet
There are a couple of gyms i can go to, just not sure where to start
Does a full time job matter?
    Health insurance is fine
Everybody i am close to supports it

I feel like it's something that i need to be doing. Like i was made for it or something.

Any more suggestions would be nice, thanks guys

If your in NYC just go to the oldest gym near you. Find a trainer and ask him to "evaluate" your basic skill level. Another words would he consider working with you at your age? Don't do the "private lesson" BS your exactly what they want age wise!

Boxing at an above club level is a life style!

See this way too often, people buy the gear thinking that they have their heart set on boxing.. Until they feel the heat. All the gear, no idea... All the kit, don't know ****, etc. Find a reputable gym and work your ass off and show that you want it. If you want it bad enough you can move mountains and no, 22 is not too late providing that you are relatively athletic and healthy already. Some of the best trainers may not give you any attention until you prove yourself to them, like they'll get you doing footwork drills for weeks 'til you start to wonder if they really know what you're doing. Do some amateur first. Sorry to burst your bubble but I hear it all the time, people who think they would make a great fighter... it's so easy to talk, not so easy to live the life.

I hear you. I'm healthy, fast, energetic, etc. I just need some training techniques because i don't want to go to a gym completely clueless

No no no!! Better to go completely clueless and to let a trainer mould you, especially as you are getting on in age already. Calisthenics, skipping, sprints... that's enough to get you in shape. Leave the boxing knowledge to someone who knows what they are talking about and who can show you how to perform. Right at the start is when it is most crucial to GET IT RIGHT - you will spend 5 times as much effort trying to undo bad habits

Ok, i wasn't sure whether to go there clueless or not. Any other advice? Do i just go into a gym and tell them to train me or what?

You started this post like 2-3 weeks ago....have you even gone to any kind of a gym yet?? Better still, if your serious about it all, have you checked the requirements of getting a professional licence?? Your eligibility, contracts that must be in place, CT scan and other medical tests that must be done, have you looked at where you could find a manager? Have you checked that you might have to produce an amateur record? And their os a million and 1 other things that must be done instead of just finding a gym...

I'm not trying to s#it on you, but at 22, with no experience in combat sport (I presume) no amateur fights, and don't even know the basics you will more than likely be declined...

Even if you did get a pro license somehow, have you taught of how you would manage your training/fighting and all the costs of it while holding down a job??
Don't think you can just turn pro and start making money, that only happens with a very very good amateur pedigree the likes of European, Olympic and world championship bouts and medals......
You only get a percentage of the money on the tickets you have sold for the fight....can you sell even 30 or more tickets for one fight, get in their fight and be battered and bruised for the sake of what maybe 200-300$....

Look honestly the best you can hope for,at your age and experience is maybe doing well at national level...and even that is going to be a tough ask at 22 with no fights or even a gym yet....
If I was you I would just drop this whole notion before you get hurt, I can tell you now that this is a ****** idea and you more than likely will get declined a licence or you will be in debt by medical expenses and so on before you even get a license, and you wont make that money back in the pros............ Have a few amateur fights before you even think of any of this, fck even have a few sparring sessions before you even think of fighting amateur.....

This is the best advise you can get on this forum.

Ray if he hasn't been to a gym yet then he wont have a "basic" level to evaluate..... Have you ever heard of someone walking into a gym with no experience at 22 and knowing how to have a proper boxing stance, keep their hands up, how to protect their jaw when they throw a punch, and even throw a punch properly and nothing complicated like a jab........

He has been asking these questions for 2 weeks now...if he hasn't gone to a gym yet, then he is mot as serious as he says or thinks
