    Are protein shakes essential?

I box and I have no Idea when to take protein shakes and the types of protein shakes that exist. What's the actual purpose of protein shakes in boxing or in general?

Since ure taking for boxing. I would say prolly just post work out just to help repair muscle and keep what you got. If your trying to put on mass and lifting weights than that's a different story. I assume ure not lifting any weights really if just doing boxing workouts. I'm trying to put on muscle and mass so I've been taking creatine which works really good if you get the good stuff. Only problem is it's "water" weight. Which I need cause my natural build is alittle on the slim side.

Tbh I have started getting protein bars since I'm pretty damn hungry when I'm waiting for the bus home after I've been to the boxing gym. I find that on the whole protein shakes or bars are only useful if you have a tight schedule and need more calories or protein. I personally prefer bars and find they give me a quick amount of protein.

              i think its for protein

so real food is fine instead

if you are struggling for the time to make protein-rich good after a workout, then you could prepare some boiled eggs that morning and take them with you

No they aren't, merely for convenience.
When you're on the move, maybe struggling to hit your daily macros.
A lot can not stomach a heavy meal post workout.

isn't post workout the time that your stomach is more able to digest a heavy meal

                  it is for me anyway

I've never really been able to eat solid meals close to finishing training it leaves me often feeling bloated and sick. Tried lighter meals pre workout, waiting longer, it doesn't help. I don't feel like eating after a hard session anyway.
I just use a whey protein with dextrose for convenience even then I often feel sick especially banana flavoured wheys for some reason and grab a proper meal in an hour or so's time.
Maybe different for a lot of people and most will literally force it down if they're bulking, tried that in hope of my body getting used to it but its just not worth feeling bloated, sick & sluggish for a good hour.
Far easier to drink whey and wait until I feel hungry.
