    Getting back into boxing

    Couple of years ago I used to do boxing, sparring and training, I was about to get carded when I fractured my wrist playing football and I just never went back after that.

    Starting again in September but I'm ridiculously unfit, and probably underweight if anything, I am skinny!

    Planning to go jogging in the early mornings, went Friday morning. Is it best to go jogging/running every day, or every other day? Also, any tips to help me put weight on?

    Every other day i would recommend mate....star doing push ups/pull ups/crunches etc

    Skip some rope if you got room at home or outside w/e you feel like so you can get your coordination and footwork going again, shadowbox every day and keep a clean diet, i would suggest to gain weight mostly dairy products, chicken breast/turkey, peanut butter, dark chocolate

    I'm guessing around 2800 calories per day to 3000 depending on your stats

      Shadowboxing.
      Physically, it develops your form, speed, and balance. You can practice anything you want at full speed and move around. Sure, it’s not as glamorous as beating up the heavy bag but it’s deadly effective. It conditions your body to throw fast punches and gives you the opportunity to practice all fighting movements.

      Shadowboxing is like
      meditation and visualization exercise for a boxer.

      Jumprope
      Using the jumprope trains 2 things, body conditioning and relaxation. Most beginners have a problem of always using their muscles and not knowing how to relax. If you do this on a jumprope, you’ll gas out in a few minutes tops. However, if you DO know how to relax you can jump rope forever and not spend much energy. A beginner will exert his energy the whole time on the jump rope whereas an experience skipper will relax with very quick bounces that require only a split second of muscle contractions.

        Cheers lads, have been doing shadow boxing at every oppurtunity actually and will buy a skipping rope as soon as possible. Will take the advice on board.

          I went through the same situation after breaking my wrist, good luck.

          Make sure you can throw all your punches confidently first before you step back in the ring. Even for months after I had the cast removed I was unable to land a right hook without getting a shooting pain.

          When you're first starting back again I found anything was good, as long as your exercising. It doesn't really need to be a set, strict routine. Just as long as you're doing something somewhat physically challenging each day. Then when you've built on your fitness this way you can start incorporating a plan to suit the weak aspects of your fitness.

            Thanks mate, wrist isn't a problem anymore though as it was a few years ago now so it's back to full strength!

            It's just the fitness side of it, as well as obviously getting used to footwork and punching. Just can't wait to get back there now.
