I agree running is boring; however, most guys only run flats and long distance runs, which is not a boxers complete road work program. You should be running long distance runs for aerobic conditioning, hills/sand for strength and endurance, and sprints/up hill sprints for speed and anaerobic conditioning. Who should also run at different places like, parks, mountains, beach, hiking trails, and invite a friend or take your dog. If your friend can't run, let him/her use a bike. Create some excitement, challenge a gym partner to some stair climbing at the beach or a stadium; college or some high school bleachers.

Its conditioning the body and the mind! If you hate it over ride your hate knowing its a MUST to be in top condition to box! Theres NO getting away from road work! Ray

Just google mapped the route I run, Been thinking it was a 3 mile run (jog and brisk walk for me really, I'm old and soft) turns out its actually 3.9 miles, I'm feeling like a bad-ass right now. Whole time I thought my 3 mile time was ok but a little weak. Turns out I got a pretty good 4 mile time for my age/health.

I found running to be boring and painful, a tough mental exercize too. That brain starts telling you that its hard to breathe, your leg hurts, just cut it a bit short, just walk this part off, its too hot/cold/windy/wet etc... Gotta distract that - mp3 player, daydream, change of location, run with a buddy....

If you have kids, build a rickshaw (spelling?) and run them around, they'll love it, plus it gives you some resistance... Or build one for commercial use and make yourself some money while you run...
Borrow a dog, make him your running buddy, make sure if you're in a city he runs on a lead well... nothing is worse than trying to run with a dog that is slowing you down because he can't figure his leash out.

IMO intervals should be part of your running routine, not a "Run harder for less time" kind of thing, if you are short on time thats fine, but if you have 1 hour to run/jog, you have 1 hour to do intervals, they're not a shortcut.... my opinion only, do something like Monday - jog tuesday interval, etc.

My last bit of advice.... run with a purpose. Pick a store that is roughly the distance you should be running, find an item at that store that is a treat for you, preferably something you can only get there. Make yourself a deal that you'll never drive to that store, you'll only walk/run/jog/bike to it...
(LOL, I did this with a liquor store for years)
