    Question about running and cities/pollution

The route I go running basically follows a very busy main road and I often find myself taking big gulps of petrol (gasoline for Americans) saturated air.

Just wondering how bad this is for my lungs since I basically run right alongside a ****load of cars? I live right in the middle of the city aswell so wherever I go running its kind of the same story.

Is it a big deal or not? Obviously its going to be better for me running in the mountains or countryside but will it have any noticable negative effects on my cardio (or health in general).

i would say no. Mexico city is one of the most polluted citys in the world and most fightes from there do their road work in the city.

      Cheers for the reply mate.

      Anyone have anymore opinions?

Just been for a run just now and the road was busy as usual and stinking of fumes and it was constantly niggling at the back of my mind

i guess it may have some effect or else pacman/mosley/dlh wouldn't go run in a mountain town in the nature. but i dont think you have to worry about it. if you've lived ur whole life in a city it won't change anything. just keep at the roadwork.
