Hey i just started boxing today at 17 and im coming from ice hockey. Im wondering how i get the trainer to train me because theres classes for a workout but i want to train to fight do i just ask him and he'l set up a time to train me? Also do you guys think it's too late to get serious about boxing for me at 17? Is it completely different from hockey... in the body dodging aspect?

Just work hard. Plenty of people come into the gym and want to fight but aren't willing to put in the effort. So nobody is going to train you until they see that you are dedicated and won't be a waste of their time.
And to answer your second question: No.

I played hockey for something like 13 years, then started boxing. Totally different mentalities. In hockey it's all about playing for the logo on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back. You have a team to pick you up, you have to pick up your teammates. You can have a terrible game, but as long as the team wins it's a positive. You can play the game of your life and your team can still lose.
Boxing is all about you. No one is there to pick you up when you have an off night, and obviously no one is in the ring with you to help you.
The only real similarity I can can think of is that in both hockey and boxing you need to be able to mentally block out physical pain.

I disagree with the boxing being an individual sport thing. I thought it was when I first started, but I'm closer with and have more of a sense of being part of a team with my coaches and main training partners then I ever did when I played football (which is often described as the ultimate team sport).
In football everyone wanted to make themselves look good so they would get a starting position, get more plays called for them etc. A more experienced player wouldn't help out a newer player because if he gets too good that means less playing time.
In boxing, because you aren't in competition with the other people in your gym everyone is willing to help each other out more. In my experience anyway. Of course when it comes time to fight, you are in there on your own, but you can't do good without the sparring and coaching you've received and you rely on other people for that. A handful of people at my gym are like a second family to me.
