how small is too small for boxing?

so my friend wants to get into the pugilist sport, the guy is 5'3, very compact and stocky and weighs 135, very lean so I told him if he were to compete he would have to loose a lot of muscle for the lower weight classes, if he fights at 135-130 he would be fighting against people a lot bigger then him.

another disadvantage is that he has T rex arms LOL very short arms. Should I tell him that some people just don't possess the body for boxing?

I'd let him have a bash at it, if your experienced then help him out, but ya know he could be a hell of a small boxer, ya never know. No one can reach there potential without training.

i don't think he can be a boxer in that sense because he simply lacks that reach to box, but he is a pretty big puncher with those compact hooks and a pretty good right hand. the only chance he has is to brawl on the inside.

Mike tyson had short arms and he was great. Is there a guideline to how tall you have to be and how long your arms have to be or is this just what people say? cause I have short arms and I'm thinking should I box or night. I dont want to waste my money if I cant hit anybody.

too small for boxing is Minimum weight. Which I think is like 98lbs or somethin like that.

Your boy can lose weight healthily and be around 127lbs minimum. Or at least thats what ideal weight charts in doctors offices say. If he doesn't want to lose weight then tell him he needs to become an in-fighter. Otherwise he wouldn't hit the side of a red barn.

It's rare, but some short guys with short arms are successful. They have to have an effective defense to slip the incoming fire to get on the inside, and also the right footwork to get there.

Dwight Qawi is an example. He was built like R2D2, but became an excellent fighter. Marciano and Tyson are other examples. I would also mention Hamed, but he's not someone you should emulate stylistically.

Tell him to go for it, don't let your shape affect you, a boxers style usualy comes from his physical attributes he will just have to learn to use them to his advantage. #ANy shape or size can box, its just learning to box to your natural advantages.

Tyson did have short arms but this is at 130 where fighters are MUCH better boxers than HW's, yes? Tyson also had amazing power and speed for a HW. It'll be very hard with the kind of body his friend has.
