its a great way to build up ur traps, lats and upper back. manny pacquio does a modified version of this with a medicine ball with two handles and slams it against a pad thats on the floor. great for wipping that left hook around.

What I use is a medicine ball with a rope through it (most folks call it a SlamBall), that Target used to sell. I added washers to the thing so it could handle getting slammed without the knotted rope popping out.
I notice it hits my triceps, shoulders, core, back, and legs (in that order).

Slege hammer swings are a great technique. They say it increases punching power, I not exactly sure about that it definitely strengthens your arms and shoulders and is good for upper body endurance.

We do a drill at our gym where we do 10 swings over the left shoulder, 10 over the right and then sprint to the end of the parking lot (50 yards or so) and then do 10 pushups and 10 jump squats doing a fast jog back to the tire and hammer. 3 x 3 minute rounds of that = death.

If you've got a sturdy wall, do a 'wall sit' or 'invisible chair' against it and slam the ball back and forth against the wall rotating at the waist. Kinda hard to explain but it's a great exercise for strengthening the core esp obliques.
