Hey guys. I'm new to the website. Here's the thing. I am 21 years old, 6'2 and about 155 lbs at most. Hence why my name is Lanky lol. I'll try and make this short. I have been watching boxing and following fighters for years. I just love the sport. But I still feel like somethings missing. I have a pretty good job but I still feel like I'm missing something. I don't want to look back when im 30 and say I should've at least tried. Here's somethings about me. According to my friends (please I am not talking myself up, I'm looking to see if I at least have the basics) I hit extremely hard with my right hand. But I know that my left isn't as strong. I broke my wrist when I was younger so I'm still building it up. My balance is a little off. But when I was younger I use to punch my concrete wall in my basement to harden my hands. My arms are pretty long and I also catch myself shadow boxing every chance I get. I guess what I'm trying to ask is am I too late? I know people have hobbies but this is something that I can't get off my mind. It's like I feel like I could actually be good at it. Please any advice would definitely help out. If I do decide to finally try, how would I go about doing it? My problem is that I'm really nervous to ask. Thank you guys in advance.

you gotta suck it up and just head over to a gym in your area and talk to a trainer. its not too late. bernard hopkins started at 20 and look at him now. punching the concrete in my opinion is a bad idea. i think you'll just cause yourself some problems in your later age. fighters take great care of their hands because thats their money maker. mayweather jr goes through therapy to keep his hands healthy and for maintenance because of the constant abuse. i dont think he does a lot of heavy bag work either thats why their arent many vids of him doing work on it. he saved the hard hits for the ring. the gloves are meant to protect your hands so there is no need to strengthen them(knuckles) unless you, which i doubt, are one of the severe cases that have sensitive knuckles and have severe pain even with training gloves on. again if you want it then go get it. had to a gym and see what your made of. good luck

Just contact your gym and ask them the info you need, that's what I did don't worry they wont bite your head off. No you haven't started to late, your still young and got many years ahead of you... as you said you don't want to look back and think "I wish I at least tried", well try then and you cannot be disappointed with yourself... they will teach you what you need and get you in good shape.

Go for it man. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I'm 20 and have loved boxing for years, but my commitments to hockey and soccer in high school kept me from taking it up. I just need to save up a little money first... which would happen faster if one of the 40 applications I've put in the past two months would turn into a job...

Hey thanks guys I really appreciate the advice. Just to make it a little bit clearer, I don't punch walls now. I did do that before when I was a lot younger. Then my parents bought me a punching bag that I used for awhile until we moved. I honestly don't know what crossed my mind that that could be a good idea. But yeah with my left wrist being broken, I had a compression fracture when I was about 12 I think. It doesn't bother me anymore but when I finally get to a gym, I'm going to bring that up. Hopefully they can help me out with that. Again thanks guys for the advice. Any advice on what I should look for when looking for a gym?
