However, the Thai brands like Twins and Windy are worth mentioning. I tried Windy's sparring glove and they felt great. But stay away from Fairtex.Last edited by We want Floyd; 03-29-2009, 04:42 PM.

I3C727 and YoungMoney 17,
Do you guys use your Grants for sparring only or use it for mittwork and bagwork as well?
'Cause the Grant company even advises people not to use the Grants training gloves for heavybag work. I use mine strictly for sparring and the Winning for everything else.

Hmm, i dont really like the style of thai gloves since they are mande with the intent for clinching and grabbing they just feel weird to me.
I like the construction and love the feel of my grants i just hate the cheap looking coloring that they used and am really wondering if it will hold up. I see alot of pple use there grants on the bags on sparring days to warm up and sometimes for rounds on the bag after sparring. I probably wont use them at all on the bags, i have a bag glove (title gel)
Where did you see that btw? can you link us?

But your Grants already look like they've been used and abused and you say that you've only had them for months. F**k that, return 'em and get some really nice Ringside gloves.
Oh, and going back to Grant advising not to use their training gloves other than sparring. Okay, let me re-state what I said, it wasn't so much advising their customers, but, they just mention what they're meant for, but they didn't say to not use 'em for anything else. Look on their website or Ringside's.
As far as Thai gloves are concerned, hmm, for me, the only difference between Thai gloves and boxing gloves is that Thai gloves only come in long cuff to absorb the kicks when you block kicks with the forearms, but that's really the only difference.

I had these really nice Ringside gloves(they don't make them anymore), I had them for a good 5 years man, and were made of 100% cowhide leather and they held up like new and I used those 6 days a week!

Send it back for another one and if you are unsatisfied with the second item then contact them about it. I can understand you being annoyed considering how expensive they are.

Mexican glove cuffs are MUCH longer than thai glove cuffs.
The difference is in the flexibility of the wrist.
Thai defense is a palms-forward, wrist-bent-back defense to occupy the opponent's arms while the kicks pound the body underneath; it's not just "bad boxing", they really do train to defend like that.
This is much harder to do in real boxing gloves.
Why would you intentionally block kicks with your forearm?
Even "telephone" block is catching the kick more on your shoulder & the padded part of the glove.
The palm may have a little bit of padding along the outer edge in thai gloves, but not every brand/model has this.
Interesting that you like Windy gloves.
I used mine 2 or 3 times before I got rid of them - some of the worst gloves I've ever used, the vecro was already starting to separate from the cuff.
The fill is hard, but thick & takes a while to break in.
Hate sparring folks who are wearin' 'em.
I like Windy's extended thai pads & pro shin guards though.
Fairtex used to have a bad rap on gloves because their old models had messed up thumbs.
Their new stuff is actually pretty decent - a lot of the more experienced people at my gym have fairtex.
I used to love Twins. Lately, not so much. Just got rid of a pair of 16s that were bulky as I don't know what. My old 14s were much better. Twins likes to put an extra lump of padding over the big knuckles and that can feel real weird coming from other gloves. Once they're broken in, they do get better (probably the same case for the Windy's), but until then, the unevenness might cause wrist problems.
Going back to Grant gloves - they need a lot of breaking in. The padding comes very hard at first and needs to be softened up before anyone should use them for sparring. The craftsmanship on both of my pairs is awesome, but then I got them 3 years ago, directly from Grant, before they started dealing with Ringside, and the colors I have aren't even common anymore.

Yea i read that about the foam, ill do some mitt and very light bagwork with them for a few weeks before sparring. But first i need to decide wtf to do with these things, i requested pics from juhl and now you to see if its just my imagination.
