Good quality jump rope, surface to use on?

I had a basic Everlast leather rope but found it wasn't really good for speed, so I purchased a BBE speed rope. After a day of using it the thing snapped right down the middle, I think most probably it was the surface I was using it on which was concrete, the roughness of the floor has obviously worn the rope down, I think..

Anyway, can anyone recommend a good quality speed rope (UK only) and what surface to use it on. I can only really use it outside so if anyone can suggest some sort of fitness mat or something would be good.

    Thanks.
