how do you train at your gym?

i still have not joined a boxing gym yet. i spoke to a few clubs in the area to see how it goes.

the first one was really a MMA gym but they said they have open gym 6 days a week and lots of boxers come in to train on their own.

the other i spoke to was a boxing gym and he told me besides private lessons he runs the gym in a open/class mix with a boxing circuit workout. going 1 round each exercise then a minute off then to the next.

i like this idea but im still trying to figure out where i should start off. any tips

i agree... this sounds about right. you will need a trainer who teaches you punches and defensive moves with the correct technique and provides opportunities for shadow boxing, a circut and sparring. Ideally you will be able to do sparring drills every lesson, but not all gyms offer this.

Where I train we have a class that's run once or twice a day that combines fitness stuff and boxing basics.

30-45 minutes, pushups, stretching, abwork, shadow boxing.
15-20 minutes of heavybag work. Different punch combinations, intervals done for speed or power etc.
last 30 minutes or is usually focus mit work.

The class is for people who are just begining so they can learn the basics, and also for people who have no intention of fighting or sparring and are just looking for a way to get a workout that is more fun than running or lifting weights.

While the class is going on the other trainers supervise (and participate in) sparring sessions, do padwork and other sorts of drills with the fighters. Some times the fighters will join in with the class for a certain drill than they want to do.

When the gym is open and there is no classes being run, it's just open training where you can do what you like.
