On the HBO side its a contractual issue. And like it or not, & even I don't like it like I've said in numerous threads + I've said that I think all network contracts should have a purse bid out to them, but the reality is HBO is under zero obligation to "rent out" their fighters they have exclusive contracts with. On the Jacobs side I could easily see this fight not being won on a purse bid number by K2 that would provide him with enough money for this fight to make sense based on his previous paydays.

I don't really see the good & evil you & others seem to see here. Its kinda effed up, but HBO & Jacobs are completely right to feel the way I'm suggesting they could feel about this fight being made under various ways that are likely if it goes to a purse bid.

I got no clue how you don't see that. I mean how many contractually obligated HBO fighters fought off of HBO in the last decade? Idk tbqh, but its not many. I don't like HBO's fighter control they have, but contracts are contracts as anti-boxer guys say when a boxer sits for a year cuz he signed a ****ty promoter deal. So this fight is happening under the HBO banner or its not happening. Maybe...just maybe I could see this fight happening on Showtime PPV if HBO gets their piece, but beyond that this fight is only happening on HBO or HBO PPV with Tommy L & Haymon shaking hands on it.
Maybe I should put it this way. I don't give a fuck about a contract. There is no reason this fight shouldn't be made.

I'm very confident it will be made from the reasons I stated before. Jacobs is only relevant because he has a shot to beat GGG. If he doesn't fight him who is he going to fight? Mora again? There aren't any other PBC MW out there for him to fight. It took him almost a year to get a fight after the Quillin fight and it was Mora. Jacobs was guaranteed that Lee if if he would've won. When Sauders won he wouldn't fight him. The reason it took him almost a year to get another fight and that fight turned out to be Mora is because there is no one else for him to fight. So what is he gonna do, drop the belt and fight Andy Lee? He has nowhere to run and that's a good thing. That's why I'm confident he won't vacate. And I'm confident GGG won't vacate because his claim to fame is all the belts. And HBO has had most of the fighters to make fights that's why it's been rare to see their fighters fighting on other networks but they have allowed other fighters to fight on other networks. Even with the Kovalev situation, Kovalev didn't have an HBO contract when she ducked out of the purse bid so that was her fault.

I'm almost positive he has a clause in his contract that allows him to fight for whatever promoter wins a purse bid. I can damn near guarantee that's in his contract. That's a question I'd like to see asked to Loeffler.

This right here. Fu©k HBO vs Showtime shiz. Fu©k Al Haymon vs HBO BS. Fu©k the politics. Leave that shiz for the Hilliary vs Trump thread. Some of us just want to see FIGHTS!

Don't blame the fighters in this situation blame HBO, a network trying to play Promoter as well keeping fights from happening
Jacobs is the one in danger of vacating if this goes to purse bid and he's not being compensated in the manner he thinks he deserves.

HBO wouldn't stand in the way...they have invested too much in GGG to basically force him to drop a belt (which is his schtick atm), especially to an underdog such as Danny Jacobs.. GGG fighting off network in this bout is basically free advertising for them..."you wanna see this guy fight some more? Only on HBO"

network politics wont stop this, only Jacobs pay will.

It would make for an intelligent tactical maneuver by HBO (given their current state), if Haymon put up big money and agreed to put Golovkin/Jacobs on Fox, NBC, or CBS, to allow the fight and bring Golovkin back a much bigger name due to the exposure.
Yea its happened, but its the exception to the rule obviously & its not happened very often. And in this particular case Chavez was the A side & Sweet Pea was a guy who probably didn't do the greatest ratings for HBO I'd guess not knowing the ratings back in the day.

I do like the 2nd paragraph & that sorta untypically thinking is what will need to be happening for GGG to get off of HBO for this fight if it goes to a purse bid K2 doesn't win.

I bet at least one guy among Ward, Mikey or JCC Jr said that before sitting for a year+ over their contracts.

This isn't like the Canelo situation. Jacobs will never recover from ducking his mandatory. The only thing keeping him relevant now is people viewing him as the only MW with a shot to beat GGG. GGG will never recover from dropping the belt because his thing is all the belts. If he dropped the belt he's not getting that Canelo fight. He'd be doing the exact same thing Canelo did. Fight a welterweight and drop a belt. I'm very confident this fight will get made.
How does this fight get made when HBO has said they're not paying for Bumlovkin Jacobs?

It's far more likely that Jacobs will drop his paper title.
Jacobs is as much of a paper champion as Bumlovkin is...

If that is turns out to be a fact I'm more confident the fight can happen I'll admit.

And I'd like to see Tommy L get asked that question myself.
