They own like 5 hotels or something.....there are some big boys they have no impact on...a rival hotel, any rival hotel that starts to promote fights will put a dent in their game as they only utilize the MGM to make bank off of PPV boxing matches.
They don't own the Venetian, the Palazzo, Ceasar's Palace, Palms, Mandarin, Trump International, 4 Seasons, Weston, etc. MGM isn't the only game in town.
The MGM has a longstanding relationship with Mayweather. Arum tried to cut them off by booking at the same venue a few weeks before, and assumed it would lead to the MGM not promoting Floyds fight until after Pacquiao's was over. Didn't happen; his plan backfired, and it turned out his bout was the one whose promotion got diluted.
MGM isn't losing out on anything. If TR takes their fights to the T&M center, the only one getting ****ed over is the fans, because that's a garbage ass place to watch a fight.
What does that have to do with anything? MGM should have rejected the Pacquiao/Bradley fight, end of story. MGM messed up, plain and simple.
Jim Murren should not be sharing Arum's "abuse" to all 62,000 employees. He is the Captain of his ship. He is responsible for running the ship and avoiding the icebergs and mines.
This is really no different than me ordering a thousand business cards, and getting them delivered with my competitors name and profile on the back of them.
Where does this myth come from that MGM wronged Top Rank. Do you guys seriously eat up everything Arum says? Arum is a known liar and professional spin doctor. Use your heads.
MGM does everything they do in boxing to make money. Arum wouldn't pony up the dough and gets mad when his event isn't properly promoted by people whose job it is not.
this is probably a case where Bob's wife forgot to change his diapers since the morning, diapers filled with pee , his a$$ burning from the urine and thus acted like a pissed off baby..
Kinda paints a picture then when a person, as you've described him, is not only capable of "bullying" MGM, but of bullying MGM such a degree that the chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International felt compelled mention it in a company-wide newsletter...if of course, this was what he was referring to.
Because he didn't want to be too definitive...hence the
Asked whether that last comment meant Murren was severing relations with Arum, MGM Resorts spokesman Clark Dumont said via email, ***8220;There is no further comment.***8221;
At least Arum said his piece in public and in front of the cameras, not a vague comment in a newsletter with a "no further comment"...you know, just in case the MGM doesn't really want Pacquiao gone for good.

Dan Rafael lays it out pretty nicely:
Arum was rightfully upset with casino executives, who have the property decorated to the hilt with signage and promotion for the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Marcos Maidana fight that the MGM will host on May 3, rather than an all-out blitz for Saturday***8217;s Pacquiao-Bradley rematch.
It***8217;s obvious, too. The outside of the MGM has a massive banner down the side of the building with Mayweather***8217;s picture. Although there is Pacquiao-Bradley signage in the main lobby, there is little elsewhere.
Mayweather-Maidana advertising, however, is everywhere. The fight adorns slot machines throughout the casino and there are rotating signs hanging from the ceilings along the casino***8217;s Studio Walk, which normally would be reserved for the event this week.

Well a lot of these people are not bright enough period! This is why Arum is a genius, knowing and understanding how the business side of boxing works is also a key element of how business is run. If people think MGM is the loser here then they don't know much about this whole thing.
I don't know why businessmen catch emotions like this. At the end of the day, all that matters is whether they are making money together or not. The results ultimately end up being the logical factor of whether the relationship exists or not.
They're probably going thru a phase at the moment and will come to negotiating terms later in the future. But at the same time they might not since MGM is generating big money with Mayweather (who considers the MGM his home) so I don't see them feeling the need to amend ties with TR so soon.
