Comments Thread For: If not unshakable, rebuilt Anthony Joshua may be in best-ever mental state

Anthony Joshua says he never lost his self-belief following a second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk but insists that it was crucial that he took the right steps back into title contention.

Joshua has always had a good mindset. He has always had that vulnerable chin so he never got the huge ego that people like Wilder got. That kind of ego stops you learning

BUT AJ can always be hurt. I don't think any kind of mindset would help him much if his senses aren't there. He really seems to take a long time to recover from knockdowns

Dubois should be an easy win for him though. AJ is a better boxer and Dubois doesn't have a good enough chin to take a shot to land his own (like Ruiz did)

I don’t buy it. I don’t think AJ’s ever been the same post Ruiz.

But ddd not short of confidence too. Just being a champ has probably added a extra yard or 2 of pace to DDD, and probably stands an inch taller too

Imagine it’s been helpful for AJ mentally that Wilder & Fury have both lost in recent years too. None of them are infallible, and at least AJ has generally (post Usyk meltdown aside) kept his dignity.

This is the best fight in all of September!

This version of Joshua looks; on the evidence of the past two fights under Davison, to be one that could beat Fury and maybe even Usyk, if they fought again.

That is based upon his form, not the opponents in Wallin and Ngannou, whom he beat so convincingly.

His chin is dodgy, but he does have some considerable punching power.

Don't matter. Usyk whipped AJ, Usyk whipped Dubious, Usyk whipped... What's that new kid's name? Fury! Usyk whipped him too!
Now all hey have to do is play with daddy's belt he left them to play with!
