Impact and importance of DAZN and/or ESPN on boxing

For years HBO and Showtime was the most important broadcasters of boxing.
They produced the best and biggest fight for years and had a great schedule.

Now with them both out of the boxing business the landscape looks different.

A lot of things are wrong with DAZN, the price, the ******ing and especially their commentators but one can't deny that they definitely have a packed schedule.

I'd you look at the remaining schedule every week there is boxing and from different countries.

ESPN+ also has a pretty okay schedule with fights from the USA &Japan.

But I kinda feel like DAZN has solidify their importance of boxing going forward.
No other platform has as busy schedule as them.

Your thoughts of how you feel the boxing broadcast landscape looks like?

It doesn't have to be DAZN. But it's the only chance of having all promoters come together so that subscribers only have one subscription for all boxing contents. It's a ******ing service, content provider, producer and buyer. Meaning, it's not owned by Matchroom, GBP, Paul company, etc. Any promotional company can be in it and provide contents. That's what Netflix, Amazon are all about. Buy or produce contents. They're nothing without contents.

Why is the plural of entity still being censored? Any other equivalent for it?

Boxing is sort of an afterthought on ESPN IMO. They don’t view it as a key asset like the NBA.

I hope DAZN want boxing to be the one of their premium products long term but I doubt they do tbh. They just haven’t been able to secure the main****** sports yet in the US/UK. I’m sure if they had the NFL or EPL, boxing would fade into the background.

The days of boxing being main****** are long gone I think. We’ve gone from the glory days of HBO to the network that generally showed second tier guys on Friday Night Fights and a ******ing app.

Netflix and Amazon got gazillion content producers/sellers. Many of them are just dabbling in the film industry producing senseless horribly-made movies/films. But they still make their way into these ******ing services. So if you have 3 or 5 phones with cameras and have very little experience in making movies, but with good editing skills, try making one and they'll have a good chance of landing on one of these ******ing services. Netflix and Amazon will buy anything.

I had Showtime but only for boxing, same with HBO when it was still on. I'm not about signing up for ******ing services just for fights ever couple months. They just can't pay these fighters that much unless its the Saudi prince throwing money around like water for his entertainment with no prospects of a return. No one is buying a Haney/Prograis PPV for example, thats insane neither of these guys are big stars to justify it.

We just need boxing back on a primetime network

True. I won't be surprised if ESPN exits boxing too. Boxing plays second fiddle to ESPN just like in the FNF days. TSN covered FNF and now TR Boxing, but it's annoying to see ESPN let finish US football or baseball while boxing is already in progress. ESPN don't care much about boxing.

It’s become a niche sport sadly. Boxing will likely be relegated to just the ******ing apps in the future I reckon.

I feel one of them will exit boxing all together. If even one of the two leaves then boxing is a major major trouble! hopefully it doesn't happen but it's just that the ratings are not there and the networks make very little money on boxing if any because the boxers are demanding too much ridiculous purses

TBH, I didn't see Showtime exiting boxing. I certainly didn't see DAZN producing fight cards on a weekly basis. I thought their spending spree is over. Now that they're beginning to prove they're in it for the long haul, I can be optimistic, albeit cautiously, boxing will go on and DAZN becoming an important player in the sport.
