    Is Lennox Lewis overrated?

Maybe its just me, but people have him in the top 3. Alot of people have him beating Ali and foreman. His best wins are holyfield and tyson who were over the hill times five. what do you guys think?

    Well i'm biased but no.

Holyfield was a little over the hill maybe, but to be honest, he is the Teddy Sheringham kind of athlete, where age is not an issue, look at hopkins, it's the same deal with Holyfield.

lennoxes main problem is his losses to rahman and McCall, lewis would often come in undertrained and unprepared, HOWEVER when Lewis was at his best, he was a fast, powerful, brave and fierce, brilliant tactical fighter, and I honestly belive, AT HIS BEST he could defeat any fighter.

I dont know waht to think of him, he dominated what is in my opinion the best era of HWs ever. Yes Tyson and Holyfield were over the hill but Evander was 3years off his career best win. Then theres:

Vitali - beat future ring champ at 37years of age, 3 months from his 38th birthday

Golota - rated no1 in the world by many after he beat up on Bowe. KO'D IN 1

Rudduck - top3 in the world, destroyed in 2

Tua - new Tyson, maybe the hardest left hooker ever, shutout

Bruno - top 5 fighter, Lennox was having a tough time but ko'd him

Rahman - came back from a KO loss at 35 to destroy Rahman

Morrison - ex WBO champ, big hitter, fresh off beating Rudduck, top 10 fighter, dominated

Tucker - unbeaten since Tyson, ex IBF champ and top 10 operator dominated

McCall - avenged the loss making Oliver cry

Mercer - toughed it out to win a tough decision against a tough style

Briggs - linear champ, destroyed in 4

Grant - the heir apparent destroyed

Gary Mason - top5 fighter, 35-0, beaten into retirement

Lewis can't help it Prime Bowe and Prime Holyfield ducked him, he beat everyone else

good post inferno - watching lewis in training with manny he shows a good tactical brain and can do morethan just use his long reach and jab.

he was capable of shortening up his punches, using his weight in clinches, had a good array of punches and beat everyone he faced. Including rematches which says alot about how confident he was.

fights with bowe and tyson should have been made earlier but i rank him top 5

Yeah, that is a good analysis, Lewis is not over-rated, Ali is over-rated. I honestly feel, If lewis had fought and beat bowe then people would just say bowe wasn't that good anyway, it's no win for him

I think lewis is an ATG, he was great for a pretty good era for the heavyweight division.

              Tyson and Ali are over-rated

Holyfield and Lewis for my money are the best two h/w of all time.

The thing is all of those guys could have beaten each other or lost to each other even if one, the other, or both never happened. All you can do is decide whether somebody belongs in that elite group, or not. Who would have won if 'prime' Tyson met 'prime' Ali? My money would actually be on Tyson (although I'd have Foreman, Frazier and even an earlier version of Larry Holmes all beating him), but I'd never argue Tyson was a 'greater' fighter overall than Ali. Lewis just sneaks in that group, IMHO.

Well for my money Lewis on his best day beats all of them, what advantages does any fighter have over lewis?

                  Lewis is:

                  Taller than all of them
                  Heavier than all of them
                  One of the most powerful
One of the most tactically astute
                  one of the quickest
                  one of the toughest
                  one of the most durable

ok, so a couple of them have the edge in one or 2 categories, but overall none of them are quite up there, granted i'm saying on his best day, not as a whole career, which i think is where lennox let himself down.

No. Dude earned his place in the HW top 10, although I wouldn't say he's in the top 3. When cats are tryin to place fighters on these hypothetical lists, they **** up thinkin a fighter must be able to defeat everyone beneath him in the rankings. That ain't true. Yea, there's some guys also considered ATG HW's that could take LL. But you judge this ****, or at least should, based on what they did in their eras, not dream matches that we can never see and know who'd win 4 sho.
