Jerry was a good fighter, his 1st round KO of Shavers alone proved his worth.
George Foreman admitted to ducking him in 1974, if he wasn't good I doubt George would have done that, let alone admit it.

        - -Hmmm, ducking peanuts Quarry for double the previous richest purse in History seems to be important to U while ignoring any proof of such a statement.

If Quarry lined up early with Clancy, like Griffith had, then I believe he DOES become champion.

Quarry was too small for Heavyweight, that's true. If the Cruiserweight division had existed at the time, I don't doubt we would have been left with one of hte greatest champions in Boxing history. But since it didn't his best chance at success would be dependent on a great trainer.

Clancy was just a great trainer, he was the best ever. Period. On TOP of that, he was also a superb manager and very well-connected.

Quarry's biggest flaw wasn't cutting, it was being able to apply offense when his opponent was comfortable fading away on the backfoot. I dunno of anyone better at sremdying that short-coming than Clancy. But he probably would have also better steered Jerry's career. And you win 100% of the fights you don't take.

Quarry was an excellent fighter but he cut too easily and liked to party too much. From 69 all through the 70’s Jerry was doing allot of extracurricular activities not conducive to excelling in a sport at the highest of levels.

A lot of his cutting was a consequence of the fighters he was fighting and how he approached fighting them. Namely Ali and Frazier, who were too big for him anyway.
