I thought he was terrific when he out slugged Terrible Terry Norris, back in the day.... That was on the heels of Norris beat down of a old, delusional Sugar Ray Leonard calling out who he said was best in the division...
Props to Sugar Ray for stepping in with Norris at the time. (The modern day equivalent would be Oscar de la Hoyas equally delusional assumption that he could step in with triple G right now!!!)
Back to the subject at hand, Simon Brown showed a great chin with Norris who got off well, but Brown was up to the task and when he threw back, Norris wilted..... Nice fight... But after that fight Brown was (forced ?) paying homage to Julio Cesar Chavez as the best ... Thought it was crazy for a fighter to proclaim another fighter better than himself just after a awesome victory in a World Title fight !!!! I was young at the time, but felt a promoter was putting those words in his mouth.....
The other memory that sticks out in my mind about Simon brown is the fight that he had with his brother in law Maurice "The Thin Man" Blocker who just captured the lineal and WBC welterweight title from Marlon Starling... I thought at the time that the extended family should have been happy with two champions in the family.... But. Egos forced for those two to fight unnecessarily..... What a shame....
I thought wives and other family members pushed them to fight, my husband can beat your husband, oh yeah let's do it !!!
Simon Brown won, but the memory that sticks out most in my mind about that fight, is that Simon Brown swung at "The Thin Man" Blocker when he was on the ground... Maurice had the look of betrayal in his eyes as he gazed up at Brown .... Sad !!! Totally low thing for him to do.... The family would never be the same ???
Beyond that, Simon Brown was very solid under rated & entertaining fighter, at least that's how I remember him.

Smart fighter that could box and punch. The win over Terry Norris was memorable to me, that was back when Don King put on some great undercards on his PPVs.
