some questions about boxing hall of fame

has anyone made it into the Boxing HOF without winning a lineal title?

who are some of the least qualified fighters that made it into the hall?

also who are some fighters who made it into the hall without question but just didn't have that impressive credentials as far as belts won...etc goes?

can a fighter be removed from the hall once inducted? if so, has this ever happened?

    thanks!

A lot of boxers have made it into the HOF without ever having a title, some examples.
Eddie Booker, Sam Langford, Charley Burley, Holman Williams, all of them are in without question (Although Booker is only in WBHOF but not IBFHOF, he should definitly be there though).

The least qualified to get in the HOF would probably be Ingemar Johannson, Barry McGuigan and Jess Willard, Barry McGuigan is in because of the impact he had on the sport especially in the UK, he made the sport more popular in the UK then anyone else, the viewing figures for the Pedroza fight alone were ridiculous. Also to do with him writing for The Ring and his commentary work.
Johannson probably because he was in one of the sports legendary trilogies with Patterson.

Don't know of anyone being removed.

Another question is does Ken Norton deserve to be in the Hall.

He does more than Ingo or Willard. That aside, he is a borderline pick.

The truth is, unlike other sports' HOF boxing's doesn't require greatness to get in. Any fighter that has a loyal and persistant fan following has a good shot at getting in regardless of how good he actually was. Ward and Gatti both have good shots at being inducted.

While I agree with that, Ward getting in would make the entire HOF a joke. IMO Gatti doesn't deserve it either, but at least he was a title holder in two divisions and a major box office and TV ratings attraction.

Well, all things considered the IBHOF is rather a joke.....if you consider HOF status as being a measure of greatness. Right or wrong, for better or worse, the IBHOF is a fan's hall of fame and it's the fans that have the biggest influence on who gets in.

I'd just like to point out that the term "lineal title" is a joke. Technically, for example, there hasn't been a "lineal" heavyweight champion of the world since Gene Tunney. Thanks for reading [retreats into hiding]

If the fans voted, I'd have no problem with it. But it is the boxing writers who vote, and they should have a higher standard. I had long ago given up on the IBHOF, although I was pleased that Danny Lopez was finally voted in, even if it was long overdue.
