Would body builders make good boxers?

    Would body builders make good boxers?

    I mean with there incredible muscles and strength,wouldn't they be able to use this to translate into great power punchers? And great fighters?

    Just take a look at these guys,and compare there arms,chest,and shoulders to boxers.Wouldn't they be able to use this to there advantage and get the best of professional boxers?

    body builders are slow,they have no long range leverage,if a body builder were to meet a boxer the body builder would get thumped out in the ring or on the street

      At the gym a 120 pounds guy who is an amateur with only 8 fights, broke the nose badly "pizza style" of a pro body builder of 200 +, a very big and strong man, the sparring lasted less than 1 round. So that would answer your question...

        Lifting heavy weights and building your arms up to a huge size is bound to reduce the fast twitch in their arms and reduce reflexes, also I doubt they would have the stamina to last, very different exercises and sport we're talking about.

            12 rounds is a long time!

            Many boxers use weight training in their conditioning and strength work. Some boxers have superb bodybuilder 'like' physiques like Marvin Hagler or David Haye and dont sacrifice speed.

            The problem is that bodybuilding is largely an anaerobic excercise dedicated to muscle growth, where muscles are taken to exhaustion through few repetitions of near max lifting weight. It is complimented by a high protein diet. I dont want to ramble on but boxing training contains alot of aerobic, cardiovascular training to compliment the high intensity anaerobic work.

            Honestly if you were to take the average 220 Lb + bodybuilder and ask them to run one fairly fast paced mile (circa 6 minutes), it would likely leave them exhausted.

            A boxer needs excellent cardiovascular fitness and endurance. A bodybuilder can of course adapt training towards boxing, but the change in the type of training is likely to reduce sheer muscle mass through the aerobic training and calorie burning of boxing training.

            There is a reason why you dont see guys that look like Arnie, Sly or Dolph Lundgren in the boxing ring. Its because the type of training that yields that sort of physique isn't ideal for the professional boxer.

                No. A bodybuilder could possibly stop bodybuilding, adapt his weight training to suit boxing, and if he had some potential coudl make a good fighter, but chuck a bodybuilder straight into the ring....Just no.

                The way they weight train is not conducive at all to fighting, it is all about looks over function.
