Patterson is considered by many people to have the fastest hands of any heavyweight. Cooper said that Patterson had faster hands than Ali, A typlical over reaction from internet forum posters patterson was no snail his hand speed was amazing, Ali was quicker on his feet and maybe had faster reactions but hand speed was almost equal but there is no was to actauly tell.

how about using your ****ing eyes for a change? Ali was quicker on his feet, had faster reactions and superior handspeed.....no comparison for me...**** even Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson had faster hands than Patterson

Patterson was fast, but only in (in my opinion) the Top 7 or 8 Heavyweights ever by speed. Ali is the fastest by a clear margin.

Right...........in the videos shown Ali was faster on the speed bag, there was more beats per second in the short clip.

However, Patterson was measured to have a faster left hand than any heavyweight upto and including Ali. But Ali had the faster right hand.

No two ways about it both had fast combinations, Patterson's handspeed was lethal in the rematch with Johannson. These two guys are surely the two fastest heavyweights in history if speed of punch is the factor measured. Ali clearly has the fastest feet, followed by possibly Holmes and Walcott

They are no doubt closely followed by Tyson, Louis, Holyfield and Holmes on the handspeed front. David Haye has fast hands as well.

I always thought that Patterson's short reach let him fire out single punches faster than Ali could but I think Ali may have better speed in his combinations than Patterson.
