The Lack Of Respect For Hector Camacho!

    Yeah you read ****ing right.

I feel Hector Camacho Sr dosent get respect his legacy deserves.

He has a a quality resume of wins and at his peak great boxing ability and very tough with a big heart. No on has ever stopped Camacho in his 87 fight career, and he has been in with some devastating hitters.

    Camacho's Notable Wins
    -Melvin Paul(15-0)

    -Greg Coverson(32-0)

-John Montes (22-1) (After Hector Beat Him, went on to KO future world champion Freddie Pendleton and took Pernell Whitaker to a decision)

-Irleis Perez (26-0) (Future World Title Challager)

-Rafael Limon (50-12) (Former 2 Time WBC 126 Champion)

-Jose Luis Ramirez (90-5) (Hall Of Famer and 2 time WBC 135lb Champion)

-Freddie Roach (38-6) Roach said Hector was the best he ever fought

-Edwin Rosario (28-1) Hall Of Famer 3 Time 135lb Champion and 2 weight division champion)

-Cornelius Boza Edwards (Former WBC Super Featherweight Champion)

-Howard Davis Jr (Olympic Gold Medalist and 3 Time World Title Challager, who took a near peak Meldrick Taylor to a draw)

-Reyes Antonio Cruz (Former World Title Challager)

-Ray Mancini (Former WBA Lightweight Champion)

-Vinny Pazienza (3 Weight Wolrd Champion)

-Tony Baltazar (Former World Title Challager, who holds a win over Roger Mayweather)

    -Greg Haugen (Former World Champion)

-Roberto Duran (Although Duran was washed up, after Camacho beat him, Duran went on to beat former world champion Jorge Fernando Castro and even get another world title shot)

-Ray Lenoard (Ray was a finished, but did say Camacho had the fastest hands he'd ever saw)

No come on, thats a damn good list of wins.

Camacho when fully retired should be inducted into the IBHOF. And should be shown more respect by fans.

Up until his 1986 epic encounter with Edwin Rosario, Camacho was well on his way to ATG status. He beat Rosario in one of the best 135 pound title fights ever, but he seemed to had lost something in that fight. After that fight, Camacho became more of a runner and sought to fight to survive. He had no business losing to Greg Haugen, and his fight with Mancini was a track meet, not a fight. He beat washed up fighters like Duran and Leonard, but suffered terrible one sided losses to Chavez, Trinidad and De La Hoya. I feel it was his abuse of controlled substances that led to Camacho never quite getting to ATG status. I wish Camacho would have become that fighter, who after dismantling Bazooka Limon, was a sure fire HOF'er.

He had a good run in the 1980's and never lost during the decade. However constant partying began to take its toll on Camacho by the mid/late 80's. Camacho admitted in a 1996 interview that his career effectively went down the drain and that his work got sloppier fight after fight. Certainly no one could say he lacked the talent or the skill but he did not have the dedication.

To see the best Camacho in action, view his fights from the very early 1980's at super featherweight. Afterwards he turned from a flashy and speedy boxer to a spoiler who did whatever he could to make fights appear ugly and boring.

I could understand the critism of Macho. He was a "hit, then hold, then run" type fighter. He was arrogant and partied as much as he trained. He wasted more natural talent than many pound for pound fighters ever see.

But I believes he deserves some respect too. He has an impressive history and gave us older fans some good memories. He also fought a prime Rosario, J.C. Chavez, De La Hoya and Trinidad. And I think the last three was past Camacho's prime. After all that and fighting those punchers it is amazing he was never stopped as a pro.

I don't think he was ever even knocked down. Atleast I don't recall him being down in any fight.

I been saying that for a while in these forums. He has legit titles in 3 different weight classes and a total of 7 if you count the paper IBC and NBA titles he won between 147-168. To not get KOD moving up and fighting in 7 weight classes is an accomplishment even if some are tomato cans or journeymen.

The lost to Haugen was a joke. Camacho was deducted a point for refusing to touch gloves in Rd 12; that one point caused him a draw. As he lost by Split Decision and one judge gave it to Haugen 114-113. But Camacho was able to avenge that lost. I thought his perfomance with Chavez and Trinidad were okay in the beginning. Atleast, he ended both fights on his feet and tried to compete in some of the rounds. Unlike Bonecrusher Smith versus Tyson; as Smith was there just to collect a payday and survive 12 RDS.
