I actually have a report of an early Sharkey-Washington fight; "Geo,Washington, the coloured pugilist, knocked out Sharkey, a heavyweight, in a set-to at a certain place last night. Gloves were used." Daily Bulletin, Hawaii, February 8th,1893. Sharkey claimed to have won a later contest, I could not verify it but that is not to say it didn't happen.

I'm super confused by this thread.
I feel like Dunnellon's getting the brush off for no good reason. If the dude says it's skeptical at least try to see his POV rather than telling him about ones he probably already know about.
